Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter in its time, and I have just received that of 4 Iyar. I note, in reading it, your discouragement, and I deplore it. There is in this, no doubt, an intervention of your yetzer hara*, for the Jewish people, in the course of its history, has taken the habit of knowing ups and downs. This is in particular the case for those who have yiras Shamayim*, and how much more so for the chassidim*, who, from time to time, have faced obstacles, veils, trials. But in the end, it is certain that we will obtain victory. The Alter Rebbe* himself affirms that, by the mesirus nefesh* of his own person[1], he obtained that the chassidim* should know success[2].

You will therefore redouble your ardor, in order to be a good vessel, a suitable channel, that will allow you to put into application the terms of the mission entrusted to you by my father-in-law, the Rebbe — that of spreading, in your city and in the country where you find yourself at present, the light of the Torah and its luminary, that is to say, Chassidus*. Then, it is certain that you will know success, considerable success.

As I have already written some time ago, it is in carrying out this mission well that you will also have a happy life, materially and spiritually, as well as your wife, and children blessed by Hashem.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו, וזה עתה נתקבל מכתבו מד' אייר, וחבל אשר כנראה ממכתבו נפלה רוחו, ובודאי הוא מעצת היצר, כי כבר הורגלו כל עם ישראל בעליות וירידות במשך דברי הימים שלהם, ובפרט היראים בישראל, ובפרטי פרטיות עדת החסידים, אשר מזמן לזמן היו להם כמה מכשולים והעלמות והסתרים. בכל זה הנה סוף כל סוף דידן נצח. וכדברי כ"ק רבנו הזקן, אז ער האט אויסגעפועלט דורך זיינע מסירות נפש אז חסידים זאלן מצליח זיין.

ויוסיף אומץ להיות כלי הראוי וצנור המתאים למילוי שליחות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שהיא להפיץ אור התורה והמאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות במקומו ומדינתו עתה, ואז בטח יהי' הכל בהצלחה, ובהצלחה מופלגה. וכמו שכתבתי זה מכבר, שזה יהי' ג"כ הצנור לחיים מאושרים לו ולזוגתו שתי' בגשמיות וברוחניות ובדור ישרים יבורך.
