Igrot Kodesh · Letter 982 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 4 · Letter 218 · To: delà de leur sens littéral

By the grace of Hashem,
13 Nissan 5711,
Brooklyn, New York,

Greetings and blessings,

Our friend, the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim* and dedicates himself to communal needs, Rav Binyamin Gorodetzky[1], told me that you are participating actively and faithfully in the strengthening and dissemination of Torah in general, and in the educational work of the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch institutions in particular[2]. I was very satisfied by this.

I have good hope that you will redouble your ardor in this matter, to enlarge and beautify the Torah.

In the Zohar*, volume 2, page 183b, our Sages, evoking the consumption of the matzah*, relate that "a king had an only son who was ill. One day, this son grew hungry, and the king ordered: 'Let him be given a food of healing.' Likewise, when the children of Yisroel left Egypt, the Holy One, blessed be He, wished that they consume a food of healing."

Pesach* approaches, and every Jew, at the start of the Seder*, proclaims: "Whoever is hungry, let him come and eat." Beyond their literal sense, these words also allude to the necessity of administering the "food of healing" and the "food of emunah*" to the only son, who is sick and hungry. In this way, one procures an immense pleasure for our Father Who is in Heaven.

A considerable good is reserved, in this world and in the World to Come, for all those who dedicate themselves to the proper chinuch* of Jewish children, in particular for those in charge, since, according to the expression of our Sages, "the Kohen Gadol* is served first."

I would like to express to you my blessing, to you and to all yours, that you may have a kosher and joyous festival, a tangible good, moral and physical. Very soon and in our days, our request will be fulfilled, "next year we shall be free, in the land of Yisroel," with our righteous Moshiach*.

Wishing you all good, always and every day,
