By the grace of Hashem,

To the distinguished and pleasant Chassid*, chosen of the people, who excels above them, seeks the good of his people, has generous conduct, and comes from an illustrious family — Rav Shneur Zalman[1], may he live long,

I greet you and bless you.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of your nephew, Yehuda Leib[2], may he rest in peace. I was also told that the residents of the Kfar*[3] attended his funeral. May Hashem ensure that in the future, your family, within all of Israel, know only blessing and goodness — a visible and tangible good.

We are approaching the month of Adar*, and may Hashem therefore multiply the reasons for joy, so as to fulfill the Commandment[4] according to which: "when Adar* begins, one increases one's joy" — a genuine and deep joy, concerning both the individual and the community. With my esteem, my respects, and my blessing,

P.S. Following the conclusion of this letter, you have been sent an unpublished work we produced from a manuscript of the Tzemach Tzedek* on Megillat Esther*[5]. "What comes in its time is positive"[6]. In the present case, the end of the Megillah* is also timely: "the Jews dominated..."[7], "the fear of the Jews fell upon them"[8].

Following your letter, I asked Rav Gorodetski to go to the Holy Land*, may it be restored and rebuilt[9].

בצער נודעתי על דבר פטירת בן אחיו יהודא ליב ע"ה, וגם כתבו לי שאנשי הכפר השתתפו בהלויתו. ויהי רצון שמכאן ולהבא אך טוב וחסד, בטוב הנראה והנגלה, יהי' במשפחתו בתוככי כלל ישראל.

וכיון שמתקרבים אנו לחודש אדר, יהי רצון שירבו ענינים של שמחה כדי לקיים הציווי אשר משנכנס אדר מרבין בשמחה, שמחה אמתית ופנימית, בעניני הפרט והכלל גם יחד.

נ.ב. בהמשך לסיום מכתבי זה, נשלח לכ' בפ"ע מה שהדפסנו בפעם הראשונה מכתב-יד מתורת אדמו"ר הצמח צדק על מגילת אסתר. ודבר בעתו מה טוב, דבר בעתו גם סיום המגילה וישלטו היהודים כו' נפל פחד היהודים עליהם.
