By the grace of Hashem,

5 Tevet* 5729,

I bless you and greet you,

I am replying to your letter[1], which reached me late. I will mention it at the tomb, the gravestone, of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, so that you may obtain the fulfillment of the desires of your heart, and in particular so that your state of health may improve.

It is self-evident that a way of life in accordance with Hashem's commandments, as the Shulchan Aruch* explains, opens the way to receiving His blessings, in all needs. Likewise, you will strengthen your trust and your faith in Hashem, Who protects every man and woman. There is therefore no reason to be afraid or sad, including when something that appears to be a trouble occurs, which Hashem forbid. For faith itself has the power to transform what is undesirable, so that positive consequences result from it, in accordance with the well-known saying of our Sages: "this too is for the good"[2].

If, during the past year, the conformity of your Mezuzot* and your husband's Tefillin* has not been verified, it would be appropriate to do so now. Likewise, when lighting the candles before the entry of Shabbat* and the festivals, it would be good for you yourself, as mistress of the household, to give from your own money to Tzedakah*[3].

According to the Shulchan Aruch, a Jew must do everything within his power, in a natural manner, which means, in your case, that you must follow the prescriptions of a specialist physician. To determine which physician you should consult in your condition, it would be good to take counsel from a physician in whom you have trust and who knows the family, in Milan.

Shortly, we celebrated the festival of Chanukah*. May Hashem therefore bring it about that you practice an addition in the domains of holiness, on a daily basis[4], both materially and spiritually. With my blessing to give me good news,

במענה למכתבה, שנתקבל באיחור, אזכיר אותה על הציון (מַצֵבָה) של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע למילוי משאלות לבבה, ובמיוחד בענין שיפור הבריאות.

מובן מעצמו, שניהול החיים בהתאם לציווי השם, כמפורש בשולחן ערוך, פותח את הדרך לקבלת ברכות השם בכל המצטרך. וכך גם חיזוק הבטחון (האמונה) בהשם, שהוא שומר את כל אחד ואחת, ולכן אין סיבה לפחד וצער, גם כשקורה משהו שנראה כצרה חס ושלום וכו', הרי האמונה עצמה בכוחה להפך את כל הבלתי-רצוי שיביא לתוצאות טובות כפתגם הידוע של חכמינו – גם זו לטובה.

אם במשך השנה האחרונה לא נבדקה כשרות המזוזות והתפילין של הבעל, יש לבודקם עכשיו. כך גם בקשר להדלקת נרות לפני כניסת השבת והחגים, הי' טוב עבורה כבעלת הבית, לתת אז מכספה לצדקה.

ע"פ שולחן-ערוך, צריך יהודי לעשות את התלוי בו בדרך הטבע. זאת אומרת במקרה שלה, להשמע להוראות רופא מומחה. לאיזה רופא לפנות במקרה שלה, טוב להתייעץ עם רופא שהיא סומכת עליו, ומכיר את המשפחה (במילאַנו).

היות שלא מזמן חגגנו את חנוכה , יתן השי"ת שגם אצלה תהי' תוספת בעניני קדושה מיום ליום, הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות.
