To my cousin, Mrs. Sheina Zelda[1],

I bless you and greet you,

I have duly received your letters and I hope that, upon receiving the present one, the state of health of each of you will have improved. May Hashem bring it about that you soon give me good news, in adding, advancing and improving, from good to better.

Moreover, we have just lived through the days of Chanukah*, when there is a Mitzvah* to add candles and light, day by day[2]. Indeed, every Mitzvah conveys a teaching for the life of a Jewish man and woman, in many domains concerning them. The Chanukah candles in particular, according to the expression of our Sages[3], "will never disappear" and so it is with the teachings they convey, which are also eternal, in the life of every Jewish man and woman, in every place and at every time. One of these teachings is the necessity of practicing an addition to "the candle that is a Mitzvah and the Torah* that is a light"[4]. Hashem thereby multiplies His blessings, ever more abundantly, in all needs.

I thank you for the good news that the place[5] where your father, my uncle[6], of blessed memory, is buried has been identified, as well as your grandfather, my close relative, Rav D. T.[7], of blessed memory. No doubt you will do everything necessary to erect the tombstones there. Without making it a condition, I will cover the costs when you inform me of the amount. Naturally, the sooner the better. I thank you in advance for the good news you will communicate to me on this subject. I send you my blessing of good health, for yourself and your husband, in an ever-increasing manner. From your cousin who wishes you all good,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבי', והתקוה שלעת קבלת מכתבי זה כבר הוטב מצב בריאות כאו"א מהם. ויהי רצון שתבשר טוב בזה בקרוב ובאופן דמוסיף והולך וטוב, ומטוב לטוב יותר.

ובפרט שהננו באים זה עתה מימי חנוכה, שהמצוה היא להוסיף בנרות ואור מיום ליום. והרי כל מצוה ומצוה הוראה היא בחיי איש ואשה הישראלים [ב]כמה וכמה מעניניהם. ואחת ההוראות דנרות חנוכה בפרט – שבלשון חכמינו ז"ל אין בטלין לעולם, כולל גם כן הענין אשר ההוראות שלהן נצחיות הן בחיי כל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל בכל המקומות ובכל הזמנים – היא להוסיף בנר מצוה ותורה אור והשי"ת מוסיף בברכותיו מוסיף והולך בכל המצטרך.

ת"ח על הבשורה טובה אשר איתרו המקום בו נטמנו אבי' דודי זצ"ל וכן גם אבי' זקנה מחו' הרד"צ זצ"ל. ובודאי יעשו ככל הדרוש בהקמת המצבות, ובל"נ עלי לסלק ההוצאות לכשתודיעני הסכום. וכמובן כל ההקדם בזה ישובח. ות"ח מראש על הבשורה טובה גם בזה.

בברכה לבריאות הנכונה לה ולבעלה שי' ובאופן דמוסיף והולך.
