By the grace of Hashem,

Days of Chanukah* 5729,

To my close relative, the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and dedicates himself to communal needs, Rav Shmuel Menachem Mendel[1],

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter[2] of the day of liberation[3], the 10th of Kislev*, with what was enclosed, and may Hashem bring it about that you announce good news to me regarding its content. We are, indeed, in auspicious days, those of Chanukah, a time of miracles and salvations, material and spiritual, days of celebration, praise and thanksgiving[4]. With my blessing to earn your livelihood more abundantly and to give me good news,

The Chumash* whose publication you mention[5] seems destined for those engaged in scholarly study and research, for in our days several commentaries have already been published. But scholars are few, while printing and binding costs are significant.
