By the grace of Hashem,

Days of Chanukah* 5729,
Brooklyn, New York,

To Mrs. Devorah[1],

I bless you and greet you,

I have duly received your letter[2] and may Hashem bring it about that you announce good news to me regarding its content. We are, indeed, in the days of Chanukah, a time of miracles and salvations, material and spiritual, days of celebration, praise and thanksgiving[3]. According to the words of our Sages[4], "they too participated in the miracle," the women and girls of Israel.

And it is certain that there is a commandment to remember what took place in those days, so that each man and woman, according to his or her situation and the content of these days of commemoration, motivates and strengthens himself or herself to perform actions similar to those that took place "in those days, at that time"[5] and to develop them, by moving forward, adding and illuminating. With my blessing to give me good news, in joy and enthusiasm,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבי', ויהי רצון שתבשר טוב בתוכנן,

והרי הימים ימי חנוכה, זמן נסים וישועות בגשמיות וברוחניות, ימים טובים בהלל והודאה.

ובסגנון חז"ל: אף הן היו באותו הנס, נשי ובנות ישראל.

והרי בודאי אשר הציווי לזכור פרשת ימים אלו הוא כדי שכל אחד ואחת, מתאים למעמדו ומצבו ומתאים להענינים דימי זכרון אלו, יתעורר ויתחזק בפעולות מסוג אלו שהיו בימים ההם בזמן הזה, ולהוסיף בהן – הלוך והוסיף ואור.
