To Mr. Ariel, General Sharon[1],
I greet you and bless you,
You have surely received, in its time, my letter of 12 Elul*[2] and, without question, you will reply when the moment is right. Moreover, in the weeks that have passed since then, there have been various developments and events which, in my view, confirm what I had sensed in that letter.
As we discussed during our conversation, in this period of many disappointments and dissensions, what is stated in the following verse of our Torah*, the Torah of life, becomes even clearer: "My enemies make me wiser"[3]. What I mean, as we discussed, is that the statements of the enemy dismiss such-and-such an idea or action[4]. This underscores that one should have adopted this conception or course of action from the very beginning. I enclose a newspaper clipping from an important paper here. On this point too, I questioned you during your visit here and you surely remember the answer you gave me.
With my respect and blessing for success in your actions for the protection of our Holy Land and the people who dwell in it, who are "a holy nation on the earth"[5], as well as to give me good news of what concerns you personally,

בטח נתקבל מכתבי מי"ב אלול בזמנו, ובודאי יענה עליו בזמן המתאים.
ובפרט אשר במשך השבועות מאז הרי היו כמה התפתחויות ומאורעות אשר לדעתי מחזקים עוד יותר ההנחות שבמכתבי האמור.
כמדובר בשיחתנו, בולט בתקופתנו זו רבת המבוכות וחילוקי הדעות מאמר הכתוב בתורתנו תורת חיים: מאויבי תחכמני , כוונתי, כמדובר בשיחתנו, אשר דברי האויב ששולל סברה או פעולה וכו' הרי זה מדגיש שהיא היתה צריכה להיות השיטה והפעולה מאז ומקדם. ומצו"ב קטע ממכתב עתי הראשי דכאן, שגם על נקודה זו שאלתי את מר בביקורו כאן ובודאי זוכר המענה שלו.
בכבוד ובברכת הצלחה בפעולות ההגנה על ארצנו ארץ הקודש ועמנו היושב בה אשר גוי קדוש הוא בארץ, ולבשורות טובות גם בעניניו הפרטיים.
