Igrot Kodesh · Letter 950 — Grief & Loss

To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim*, Rav Avraham Chanoch[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I am replying to your letter of 5 Adar Sheni.

Our Sages affirm, in Tractate Avos, chapter 3, mishna 5, that "whoever accepts upon himself the yoke of Torah is exempted from the yoke of kingship and the obligations of the world." The Holy One, blessed be He, always acts "measure for measure," so that one who is enrolled and counted among the armies of Hashem — actually and not only potentially, which is indeed the case for every Jew — will indeed be redeemed "with a high hand"[2].

The series of chassidic maamarim* delivered on the occasion of the histalkus*[3] explains what the army of Hashem is.

I received the package containing the copy of the letters sent by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and I thank you for it.

I have not yet had time to examine them as I should, nor the text of the sichos* that were enclosed with this shipment, but I have good hope to be able to read them very soon. I will then tell you what is missing from my archives.

במענה על מכתבו מה' אד"ש:

הנה כבר פסקו רז"ל (אבות פ"ג מ"ה) כל המקבל עליו עול תורה מעבירין ממנו עול מלכות ועול דרך ארץ, וכל מדותיו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה הן, והנכתב ונרשם בצבאות הוי' בפועל (ולא רק בכח שזהו אצל כל בנ"י) בדרך ממילא הוא יוצא ביד רמה.

וכבר נתבאר ענין צבא הוי' בהמשך מאמרי ההסתלקות.

בת"ח קבלתי חבילת העתק מכתבי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ששלח,

ואף שעדיין לא נפניתי לעיין בהם כדרוש וכן ברשימת השיחות אשר שם אבל תקותי לעשות את זה בעתיד הקרוב ואודיענו אז ע"ד אלו החסרים בארכיון אשר אצלי.
