Greetings and blessings,

I am replying to your letter[1] in which you inform me that you have taken up the activity of traveling through the cities of France on behalf of the Yeshivos Lubavitch[2]. Your earnings allow you to satisfy your needs. On the other hand, a negative development has intervened in the proposal that had been made to you in Ireland, and you ask my opinion.

In my opinion, you should continue your work for Yeshivas Lubavitch, and may Hashem grant that you know success in this area, in accordance with the Will of Hashem. My father-in-law, the Rebbe, in fact said to someone who was traveling for the same purpose, that, upon arriving in those places, it is not enough to give a speech there and to collect funds. One must, in addition, bring spirituality there and implant it[3].

As you know, our Sages note, regarding those persons to whom the words of the verse "I am asleep" in exile rightly apply, that "my heart is awake"[4]. How much more so is this the case when one stimulates it with chassidic enthusiasm, by means of words that emanate from the heart.

במענה על מכתבו המודיע אשר נסתדר בתור נוסע מישיבות תומכי תמימים בערי צרפת ומשתכר די פרנסתו, ובההצעה שקיבל מאז מאירלאנד נעשה שינוי לגריעותא וכו' ושואל דעתי:

הנה לדעתי ימשיך בעבודתו בתומכי תמימים ויהי רצון שיצליח בזה, ומתאים להכוונה, וכמאמר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, לאחד הנוסעים למטרה כהנ"ל, שלא להסתפק במה שבמקומות בואו דורש ולוקח גשמיות, אלא לתת ולזרוע רוחניות,

וידוע מרז"ל אשר אף אלו שבצדק יכולים לאמר על עצמם אני ישנה בגלותא, הנה לבם ער, ובפרט אז מען וועקט זיי מיט א חסידישע ווארימקייט ובדברים היוצאים מן הלב.
