To the distinguished chassid*, who has yiras Shamayim* and is characterized by his fine conduct, Rav Moshe[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I am replying to your letter of Sunday of Parshas Tetzaveh, which I received with some delay. My response was also delayed due to my many occupations, and you will excuse me. I am also responding to your letter of Tuesday of Parshas Vayakhel.

Enclosed is the receipt for your donation to the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch* institutions of North Africa, which, baruch Hashem*, are developing. It is nevertheless still necessary that these schools, bearing the name of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, should know an immense expansion, without being hindered by financial constraints. Unfortunately, these are real, so that hundreds, thousands of Jewish children, in the cities and villages of North Africa, still remain without Torah.

Baruch Hashem*, our institutions — the seminary for training teachers, the yeshiva*, the elementary yeshiva*, Talmud Torah* for the young boys, Talmud Torah* for the young girls, evening classes for those who have a profession or commercial activity — have already acquired a fine reputation and give an encouraging example of what it is possible to accomplish, with the help of Hashem and the participation of friends who cherish the Torah.

If the latter could see with their own eyes how their material contribution is transformed into spirituality, it is clear that they would have brought all their efforts to increase the amount.

With Hashem's help, tomorrow, erev Rosh Chodesh*, when I go to the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I will mention your name, as well as that of your wife and the members of your family, as you requested, that you may be blessed and that you may have a long and good life.

I enclose for you a copy of what I wrote to someone[2]. It concerns a current matter, which was discussed at the chassidishe* farbrengen* of this past Shabbos*.

I will conclude by expressing the wish that Hashem grant you, as well as your wife, a long life and good years, immense nachas*, Jewish and chassidic, from all the members of your family and from yourselves, so that you may be able to increase your participation in tzedakah* and your good deeds to strengthen Yiddishkeit*, to spread Torah in general and Chassidus* in particular.

In fact, this is the meaning of a long and good life, according to the definition given by my father-in-law, the Rebbe. It must not only count many years, but also fill them qualitatively, that is to say, fill them with Torah, with mitzvos*, with good deeds, illuminate them with the light and vitality of Chassidus*.

במענה על מכתבו מיום א' תצוה, שנתקבל באיחור זמן קצת, ונתאחר המענה שלי מרוב הטדרות ואתו הסליחה, וכן על מכתבו מיום ג' ויקהל...

מוסג"פ קבלה על נדבתו בעד המוסדות "אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש" אשר בצפון אפריקא, אשר ת"ל הולכות ומתפתחות. אבל מן הראוי אשר מוסדות אלה, אשר על שם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר יקראו, יגדלו ויתרחבו כהנה וכהנה ולא יהי' להם בהתפתחותם מעצורים ועיכובים כספיים, אבל דא עקא שחוסר אמצעים מעכבים, ובני ובנות ישראל למאות ולאלפים בערים וכפרים בצפון אפריקא עדיין הולכים וגדלים ללא תורה. אבל ת"ל אשר המוסדות שלנו - בית מדרש למורים, ישיבה, ישיבה קטנה, תלמוד תורה לילדים, תלמוד תורה לילדות, שיעורי ערב לבעלי מלאכה ומסחר - כבר יד ושם להם ומשמשים סמל מעודד מה שאפשר לעשות בפועל בעזרת השי"ת ובהשתתפות ידידים אוהבי תורה. ולו ראו בעיניהם כיצד מהפכים הגשמיות שלהם לרוחניות, הרי היו מתנדבים די והותר בהתאמצות יתרה.

כבקשתו, הנה מחר אי"ה ערב ראש חודש, בהיותי על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אזכירו עם זוג' ובני ביתם יחיו לברכה ואריכות ימים טובים.

מוסגר פה מה שכתבתי לאחד מענינא דיומא מההתוועדות דשבת העברה.

ואסיים בברכה שיתן השי"ת לכת"ר וזוג' שיחיו אורך ימים ושנים טובות לשבוע רב נחת יהודי ונחת חסידותי מכל בני ביתם שיחיו וגם מעצמם, שיוכלו להרבות בצדקה ומעשים טובים להחזקת היהדות והפצת התורה בכלל ותורת החסידות בפרט, שזהו המכוון של אריכות ימים ושנים עפ"י מה שביאר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, שלא זו בלבד שהם ימים ארוכים ושנים ארוכות בכמות רב, אלא שעוד זאת שהם ארוכים גם באיכות, היינו ממולאים וגדושים בתורה ומצוות ומעשים טובים ומלאים אור וחיות של תורת החסידות.
