To the attention of Rav Kalman, known as Dr. Kahana*[1],

I greet and bless you,

I thank you for taking the trouble to send me the two publications concerning autopsies[2]. These were received at a propitious moment, near the Hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. I therefore take the liberty of enclosing a letter I addressed to several of my friends. I hope its content will be of interest to you.

In conclusion — just as I began — I will express the wish that autopsies finally disappear, including, of course, those performed on the living soul* of our brothers, the children of Israel*, by imposing barriers and obstacles on the path of their elevation in the domain of holiness, of a life based on the Torah of life and on the Mitzvot*, of which it is said[3]: "And he shall live by them." And all the institutions that, until now, have been the source of these autopsies will henceforth use, "doubly to acquire wisdom"[4], the quality of the people of Israel which is "the most brazen of nations"[5], in order to "wage Hashem's battle and compel all of Israel to follow the path of Torah and to strengthen it"[6]. In this way, we will merit the imminent fulfillment of the promise — according to the formulation of the great master, the Rambam* — according to which: "a king will arise from the house of David, versed in Torah and devoted to the Mitzvot, like David his ancestor. ת"ח בעד שימת לבבו לשלוח לי שני הפרסומים בנוגע ניתוח מתים. וכיון שנתקבלו בימי סגולה בסמיכות ליום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ארשה לעצמי לצרף בזה מכתב שכתבתי לכמה מידידי, שתקותי שתוכנו יענין את מר.

ובסיום מעין הפתיחה, יהי רצון שסוף סוף יבוא קץ לניתוח מתים, וגם, כמובן, ניתוחים שעושים בנפש החיים של אחב"י על ידי מניעות והסתרים בדרך עליתם בקדש, חיים על פי תורת חיים ומצות עליהן נאמר וחי בהם. וכל אותם הגורמים שהביאו לניתוחים האמורים ע"ע, הרי כפליים לתושי' וינצלו את תכונת עם ישראל, שהם עזים באומות, להלחם מלחמת הוי' ולכוף כל ישראל לילך בדרך התורה ולחזק בדקה, ונזכה על ידי זה לקיום בעגלא דידן היעוד בסגנון המורה הגדול הוא הרמב"ם אשר יעמוד מלך מבית דוד הוגה בתורה ועוסק במצות כדוד אביו כו' וילחם מלחמות ה', הוא משיח צדקנו, ויהיו ישראל חכמים גדולים ויודעים דברים הסתומים וכולי ומלאה הארץ דעה את ה' כמים לים מכסים (סוף הל' מלכים).
