To the young Chaim Berish*[1],

I greet and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 13 Tevet*, bringing me good news regarding your advancement in the study of our holy Torah*, Torah of life. Without doubt, this study leads to action[2], to the practice of Mitzvot* in the best possible way, as our Sages* teach. You also tell me of the celebrations organized for the Torah and matters relating to it — the completion of a Talmudic tractate* and the auspicious day, the day of good tidings: the 19th of Kislev*[3].

May Hashem therefore bring it about that this acts upon you and your friends, so that you have increased ardor and advance, from one stage to the next, in the revealed part of Torah* and in Chassidut*, as well as its Mitzvot, until you become "candles to illuminate"[4] your immediate and even distant surroundings. Each of you will add to all this. Indeed, we have been given the assurance[5] that one thereby increases Hashem's blessing in all one's needs.

You will surely convey all this to your friends at the Yeshiva*. Indeed, we have been given the assurance[6] that words emanating from the heart penetrate the heart of the listener and produce their effect. With my blessing for bringing me good news of all this,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מי"ג טבת, בבשורה הטובה ע"ד ההתקדמות בלימוד תורתנו הק' תורת חיים.

ובודאי אשר הלימוד מביא לידי מעשה, קיום המצות בהידור, כהוראת חכמנו ז"ל.

וכן ע"ד המסיבות לכבוד התורה ועניני' בסיום מסכת וביום סגולה ובשורה, הוא י"ט כסלו.

ויהי רצון אשר האמור יפעול בו ובחבריו שי' לתוספת מרץ וללכת מחיל אל חיל בעניני תורה (נגלה וחסידות) ומצוותי', ועד אשר יהיו נרות להאיר בסביבתם הקרובה וגם הרחוקה, וכל אחד מהם, שיוסיף בהאמור, הרי הובטחנו שמוסיפין לו (בברכת השם בהמצטרך).

בטח ימסור את האמור לחבריו שי' בישיבה, והובטחנו, אשר דברים היוצאים מן הלב נכנסים אל לב השומע ופועלים פעולתם.
