I am replying to your letter of 26 Menachem Av, in which you raise the question of housing in Kfar Chabad* and the difficulties this entails[1]. It would be good for you to address the Kfar Chabad committee once more. Of course, you may specify that you are doing so on my advice. May Hashem help you to settle in the fitting manner, both spiritually and materially. For Jewish people, indeed, these two dimensions are linked, as one can see when one reflects on it.

From this you will deduce my position regarding the second part of your letter. You speak to me of your son's plans for his future studies. One must therefore ensure that the situation is viewed as follows. Hashem has led you, together with your family, performing for you the greatest miracles. He saved you from that country[2], not only physically but also in all that concerns Judaism. This miracle occurred in a concrete manner, and you ascended to Eretz Yisrael*, the Holy Land. How, then, can one wish to consider the opposite and draw one's son back in that direction? It is incumbent on you — and this[3] is clearly necessary — to make your son understand this. Every Jew says twice daily[4]: 'May Hashem bless you and keep you'[4], and every Jew then says, twice daily[5]: 'Hashem is my Light and my Salvation' — for only Hashem can illuminate your life and come to your aid.
