To Mrs. Nechama*[1],

I bless and greet you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of January 29th[2]. I was also pleased to receive your greetings through the important Rav, Rav Shlomo Aharon [Kazarnovsky*], and I thank you for them.

I was gratified to hear of your activities in strengthening religious Jewish education, which you should certainly continue — more and more each day. In this matter, as you know, it is not the rule that applies but rather the exception, and the exception is not a precedent. The only approach that will yield lasting results is to place the foundations of Jewish education on principles in conformity with what is required. This reinforces my hope that the children who receive their education there will become good Jews, which is the only way to be certain that they will also be good Jews and good people in every sense of the term.

Needless to say, such a result must be achieved for each*[4] Jewish child, wherever he may be and whatever the environment in which he lives. But this is especially important for children in a country that even non-Jews call the Holy Land. Furthermore, in this case, these are children who, for various reasons, could not receive such an education as they might have[3].
