By the grace of Hashem,

To the young David*,[1]

I greet and bless you,

I am replying to your letter of this Friday, eve of the holy Shabbat*, in which you ask me about your studies. I am surprised that you are in doubt on this matter, since Halacha* states unambiguously: "one must always study what one's heart desires."[2] And this principle is so important that it is not necessary to...[3] according to the Yoreh Deah*, at the end of chapter 240. I hope that you redouble your energy and ardor in the study of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidut*, and that this study will lead to action, in accordance with the teaching of our Sages,[4] meaning to the observance of the Mitzvot* in the best manner.

You surely keep the three well-known daily studies that pertain to Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. With my blessing to give me good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מיום עש"ק, בו שואל בנוגע לימודיו.

ולפלא הספק, והרי פסק דין ברור הוא, לעולם ילמוד אדם במקום שלבו חפץ, וגדולה הוראה זו עד כדי כך, שאינו צריך וכו' (עיין יו"ד סוף סימן ר"מ).

התקוה שמוסיף בהתמדה ושקידה בנגלה ובחסידות והלימוד מביא לידי מעשה כהוראת חז"ל , קיום המצות בהידור.

בטח שומר על שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים.

בברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור.
