To the distinguished Chassid*, who fears Hashem, is of fine conduct, and descends from an illustrious family, the Rav A.[1],

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 18 Mar Cheshvan, along with its enclosures, concerning the passing of Rabbi Meir[2]. I thank you for having taken the trouble to send it to me. While leafing through these pages, I saw the responsum regarding the addition of a leap month to the year. As far as I recall[3], this text was printed in a more detailed form in the responsa Or Meir[4].

I would like to know the origin of the tradition according to which the explanation given by the Admur HaZaken* on the Midrash Rabba*, printed in that book, volume 2, page 19, was transmitted to him by the Tzaddik*, the Rabbi of Korets[5].

All is the result of divine Providence, and in light of your origins, I express the hope that you will not content yourself with the time set aside for your own study of the profound dimension of the Torah*, which in our era has been revealed through Chassidus*, but that you will also do everything in your power to disseminate this teaching in every place where your influence extends. It is well known, in this regard, that the holy epistle of the Baal Shem Tov*[6] states that the Mitzvah* of our time is: 'Your springs shall spread outward.' From this, 'the Master will come' — who is Moshiach*. With my respects and blessing,

ובעברי בין הדפים ראיתי שם התשובה בנוגע לעבורי שנה, אשר כרשום בזכרוני נדפסה האמור ובביאור יותר בשו"ת [אור] המאיר .

אתענין לדעת יסוד[ו]ת המסורה אשר תירוץ רבנו הזקן במד"ר וכו' הנדפס בספר האמור ח"ב עמוד יט שמעו מהרה"צ וכו' הרב מקארעץ.

וכיון שהכל בהשגחה פרטית ומיוסד על גזע צור מחצבתו, אביע תקותי אשר בודאי כת"ר אינו מסתפק בקביעות עתים בלימוד פנימיות התורה - שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות - לעצמו, כי אם עושה ככל יכולתו להפיץ לימוד זה בכל מקום שידו מגעת,

וכידוע אגרת הקדש של הבעש"ט, אשר היא מצוה שהזמן גרמא אשר לכשיפוצו מעינותיו חוצה, קאתי מר דא מלכא משיחא.

אשכבתא דר' מאיר : כנראה עלי ההגהה של חוב' שרצה להו"ל, ומעולם לא נדפסה.

כרשום בזכרוני : מתקופת נישואי רבינו, אשר המחבר נתן לו דרשה-געשאנק - ספרו "אור המאיר", ולאחר שרבינו עיין בו שוחחו בסוגיות שנידונו בו (ראה "ימי מלך" ח"א ע' 279-283).
