To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Shmuel Yehuda[3],
I greet you and bless you,
I have duly received your letter of 27 Tammuz, with what was enclosed, and I thank you greatly for it[4]. The map and the illustrations[5] are an important and useful achievement. But, precisely because their purpose is to illustrate, they must have a finished character, and it is therefore regrettable that a few details are lacking from them. I will therefore mention only two points:
A) At the beginning of the notes: There is no mention of the impurity of wild animals and domestic animals that one has placed in a pit, according to the explanation of the Rambam*, in his laws of the impurity of death, chapter 6, paragraph 4. See also tractate Chullin* 129a, which alludes to what is fashioned from wood[6]. Moreover, according to the majority of opinions expressed on the subject, the impurity emanating from the pit is established by the Torah*[7].
B) Concerning the map, in its general scope: A fifth[8] category[9] should have been added — that of lustral waters[10] — according to tractate Taharot*, chapter 2, at Mishnah* 5.
Here again, one can clearly observe how necessary it is to examine matters in depth, including when reproducing textually the words of the Greats.

...דבר גדול ומועיל עשה בעריכת המפה והציורים וכו', כמובן. אבל (ודוקא מפני זה שתפקידם להיות "ציור" ודבר שלם - הרי) חבל שאיזה פרטים (ומהם - כאלה שהם יותר מפרט) חסרים בה. ואין הזמ"ג כלל לעיון ואריכות. ואציין שנים, וכל א' מהם - גדר חדש וענין שלם:
א) בתחלת ההערות כו': טומאת חי' - בהמה וכו' שעשאם גולל (רמב"ם הל' טו"מ פ"ו ה"ד [וראה חולין (קכט, א) מעשה עם]) ובפרט לדעת רוב הדעות דטומאת גולל מה"ת.
ב) כללות המפה: צ"ל מדור: חמישי (לחטאת - טהרות פ"ב, מ"ה).
וגם בזה נר' גודל הכרח העיון אפילו כשמעתיקים דברי גדולים כצורתן ממש, ואפילו כאלה שדייקו ביותר בדבריהם (וכמו בנדו"ד - הרמב"ם).
