Igrot Kodesh · Letter 9007 — General

By the grace of Hashem, days of the

liberation[1], 12 and 13 Tammuz 5725,

Brooklyn, New York,

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter[2]. We are in the period of the liberation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, following his imprisonment for having disseminated Judaism, the Torah*, its revealed part, the Chassidus* and its Mitzvot*. This dissemination was accomplished with self-sacrifice, without regard for the obstacles, barriers and limitations. At the time, as he himself emphasized[3], his liberation was also that of 'all those who cherish our holy Torah*, observe the Mitzvah* and even those for whom Israel is merely a surname.' Indeed, the heart of every Jew[4] is whole before Hashem and before His Torah*, whatever his particular situation may be regarding the practice of the Mitzvot*.

May Hashem therefore bring it about that the commemoration of the liberation and the account of the imprisonment that preceded it arouse, in each and every one, great actions — both quantitative and qualitative — with the aim of spreading Judaism down to its very least aspect, without being affected by the difficulties and limitations, both internal and external, as the weekly Parashah* underscores: 'like a young lion and like a lion'[5], going so far as self-sacrifice for such an accomplishment and setting aside one's own will[6].

As our Sages assure us[7], 'to one who desires to purify himself, considerable heavenly assistance is granted,' which furthermore means that one must equally help others. In this way, 'the Eternal his Hashem will be with him and Israel will perform wonders,' which applies equally to one 'for whom Israel is merely a surname'[8]. Then, in the most literal sense, the words of the verse will be fulfilled: 'a staff will rise in Israel'[9], 'that is the King Moshiach*,' 'He will decimate all the sons of Shet' and will rule over them 'from sea to sea'[10], 'and Israel will perform feats of valor'[11]. On this subject[12], when will the next volume of the Talmudic Encyclopedia* be published? There are indeed many who need it!

I extend to you[13] my blessing on the occasion of the festival and for the Torah* teachings that you give publicly. Furthermore, you write, in abundance, stories and anecdotes concerning our masters and leaders, as well as the 'early Chassidim*'[14], each of them in particular. May you continue to do so in an ever broader manner!

It is of course[15] painful to note that the vacation camp for girls has been discontinued, especially since it had been successful last year, despite the difficulties. Nevertheless, Hashem will no doubt grant you a double measure of success in your future endeavors.

You ask me[16] about the study of the Likkutei Torah*[17]. You will therefore do everything within your power in this domain and you will consult, on this subject, the Torah Or* at page 98c, in the parenthesis, which states: 'if he will complete.'

ובעמדנו בימי גאולת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ממאסרו על הפצת היהדות התורה (הנגלה והחסידות) ומצותי', הפצה מתוך מסירת נפש ומבלי התחשב עם כל מונע ומעכב ומנגד.

אשר גאולתנו אז הייתה, כדברי בעל הגאולה, גם גאולת "כל מחבבי תורתנו הק', שומרי מצוה, וגם את אשר בשם ישראל יכונה, כי כל איש ישראל (מבלי התחשב עם מצבו הפרטי בשמירת וקיום המצות) לבו תמים עם ד' ותורתו".

יהי רצון אשר זכרון הגאולה ופרשת המאסר וסיבתו אשר קדמו לה - יעוררו את כל אחד ואחת לפעולות גדולות (בכמות ובאיכות) בהפצת היהדות לכל פרטי' מבלי התחשב עם הקושיים וההגבלות שמבית ומבחוץ - כהוראת פרשת השבוע כלביא וכארי - ועד כדי מסירת נפש (מסירת הרצון) בעבודה זו.

וכהבטחת חז"ל הבא לטהר (פועל יוצא - היינו גם לטהר אחרים) מסייעין לו הרבה מלמעלה - יהי' ה' אלקיו עמו וישראל (כולל גם את אשר בשם ישראל - רק - יכונה, כנ"ל) עושה חיל.

עדי אשר יקוים מקרא כפשוטו וקם שבט מישראל (זה מלך המשיח) וקרקר כל בני שת (ומשלו מים עד ים) וישראל עושה חיל.

ובטח יצליחם השי"ת בכפליים - בפעולות הבע"ל.
