To Mr. E. Paz,

I greet you and bless you,

I have just received your letter of 15 Sivan*, informing me of the terrible news of the passing of Mrs. Sheindel (note 1: Mrs. S. Yanowski, a relative of the Rebbe, belonging to the family of his mother.), as well as that of your wife, may she rest in peace, and may Hashem grant you long life. Indeed, I express to you my warm thanks for having informed me of all this. May Hashem make it that, in the future, we announce to one another only good news, of visible and tangible good.

Our custom (note 2: See, on this subject, letter number 8269.) is to place the tombstone as early as possible, on condition that the seven days of mourning have passed. I wish to take upon myself the financial expenses that will result from this and I am certain that such would also have been the wish of my mother, the Rebbetzin* (note 3: The Rebbetzin* Chana*, who passed away on 6 Tishrei* of this same year 5725.), may she rest in peace. If you have personally taken charge of this, please indicate to me what it cost and to whom the sum should be paid. If others have taken care of it, please be so kind as to let me know, so that I may address myself to them or you will transmit to them yourself the contents of the present letter. Whichever option you choose, I thank you in advance.

Likewise, I take the liberty of asking you what the situation is regarding the recitation of Kaddish*, for example. Of course, if there are expenses in this matter as well (note 4: If someone must be paid to recite it.), it will be my responsibility to settle them, thanking you for what you have done. ז"ע נתקבל מכתבו מט"ו סיון עם הידיעה המדהימה ע"ד פטירתה של מרת שיינדל כ"ה וכן ע"ד פטירת זוגתו ע"ה של מר שליט"א, תנצב"ה.

ביחד עם זה תודתי לבבית על הודעתו את האמור, ויהי רצון אשר מכאן ולהבא אך בשוט, בטוב הנראה והנגלה, יבשר ונבשר איש לרעהו.

מנהגנו הוא להקדים העמדת המצבה ככל האפשרי, ובלבד שיהי' לאחרי שבעת ימי אבלות, וברצוני (ובטוחני שזה הי' ג"כ רצון אמי הרבנית הכ"מ) לשלם הוצאות הכספיות הכרוכות בזה, ואם כ' הוא המתעסק בזה נא להודיעני הסכום ולמי להעבירו, באם אחרים הם מתעסקים מטובו להודיעני ואפנה אליהם או שימסור להם ע"ד האמור, ובאיזה אופן שיעשה תודתי נתונה מראש.

כן ארשה לעצמי לשאול מכ' הנעשה בנוגע לאמירת קדיש וכיו"ב? ומובן שאם גם בזה ישנן הוצאות עלי לסלקן בצירוף תודתי על הטרחה בדבר.
