To the students of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch*,

in Montreal, on the occasion of your graduation celebration (note 1: Of the school year.),

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to the announcement of your graduation celebration, which will take place on Wednesday of Parshas* Shelach* (note 2: See Likkutei Sichos*, volume 8, page 301.). May Hashem make all those who participate in this graduation perceive its deep dimension, that is to say the preparation it constitutes for accessing a higher level of Torah* study, of its revealed part and of Chassidus*, with constancy and ardor at every moment, to arrive at the finest practice of Mitzvos* and to influence one's surroundings in this direction.

On the basis of the teaching of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, according to which the Sidra* of the week contains concrete teachings, in relation to the events of the week, especially when it concerns an event as important as a graduation celebration, it is timely to meditate on the verse: "Your children, I will lead them and they will know the land" (note 3: The Rebbe emphasizes this verse.), which is connected to the Wednesday of Parshas* Shelach* (note 4: Since it appears in the Revii* of this Parshah*.). The holy Torah* is eternal and its teachings are likewise eternal. In this case, the teaching it delivers is the following. Children can and must aspire to higher accomplishments, including in comparison to those of their parents, however lofty the latter may be. Indeed, in all domains of good and holiness, one always retains the means to continue one's ascent. If, moreover, these children keep in mind that, through their accomplishments, they confer merit upon their parents (note 5: See the Chanoch LaNaar*, from page 29, reproduced in letter number 6140.), they will then have an entirely different motivation.

What has just been said can be expressed in the following terms of our Sages* (note 6: In tractate Shevuos* 48a.): "The strength of the son is superior to that of the father" and this statement also receives expression in the deep content of this month, that of the giving of the Torah*. It is known, indeed, that it was given when the parents proclaimed (note 7: According to the Midrash* Shir HaShirim* Rabba*, chapter 1, paragraph 4.): "Our children will be our guarantors" (note 8: The Rebbe emphasizes this phrase.). It is therefore by the merit of the children that the parents received the holy Torah*, Torah* of life and the Mitzvos*, of which it is said: "One shall live by them" (note 9: Vayikra* 18:5.).

May Hashem grant success to all those who have reached this graduation, so that they attain their objective and assume their mission in the finest manner, with the illumination that Chassidus* provides, which is the teaching of our master, the Baal Shem Tov* and of our masters and leaders, in each generation. With my blessing for considerable success, both materially and spiritually, as well as for giving me good news,
