To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Chaim* (note 1: Rav H. Samuel, of the holy city of Yerushalayim*, may it be restored and rebuilt.),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 18 Adar Sheini*, in which you consider different possibilities of perpetuating the memory of your mother, may she rest in peace. You wish to do so by investing your money in a school in which the children of Israel are educated in sacred values. And, you consider, in this matter, two possibilities. As our Sages* teach, "one does not set aside a Mitzvah* that presents itself" (note 2: In Tractate* Pesachim* 64b.) and, "when a Mitzvah* comes within your reach, do not delay it" (note 3: According to the Mechilta*, cited by Rashi's* commentary on the verse Bo 12:17.). It is therefore judicious to accept the proposal that is made to you in the holy city of Yerushalayim*, may it be restored and rebuilt. Thus, there will be immediate fruits of your investment, these fruits being the Mitzvos* (note 4: According to Tractate* Sotah* 46a.).

Every good action must be carried out with eagerness and, as was said, it must not be delayed. How much more is this the case in the domain of pure education. All the more so in the domain of pure education. If one does not immediately place the student in a framework that suits him, one knows that he will be in danger, because of the unusual winds that blow outside. You must understand what I mean. I extend to you my blessing that in the future, you know no more pain and sorrow, which Hashem should prevent. In good health and with enthusiasm, you will act to disseminate the Torah* and Tradition, adding, advancing and illuminating. With my blessing to give me good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מי"ח אדר שני, בו כותב סברות שונות אודות אופן יקום יד ושם לזכותה של אמו ע"ה, שרצונו לעשות זה ע"י השקעת כסף במוסד חינוך בני ישראל על טהרת הקדש, ויש לו בזה שתי סברות.

וע"פ הוראת חז"ל, אין מעבירין על המצות, ומצוה הבאה על ידך אל תחמיצנה, נכון לקבל העצה שבירושלים עיה"ק ת"ו, שאז הרי תיכף ומיד תהיינה פירות מהשקעה זו, צאן פרי מצוה.

ואם בכל ענין טוב צריכה להיות זריזות וכנ"ל שלא להחמיץ, עאכו"כ בשטח החינוך הט', שבאם אין קולטים את המחונך תומ"י למסגרת מתאימה, סכנה צפוי' מפני הרוחות בלתי רצויות המנשבות בחוץ וכו' וד"ל.

בברכה שמכאן ולהבא לא ידע עוד מכל צער ועגמת נפש ח"ו, ומתוך בריאות וטוב לבב יעשה ויפעול בהפצת התורה והמסורה באופן דמוסיף והולך ואור.
