Volume 23 · Letter 284

7 of the month of Adar* which is

close to Nissan* (note 1: That is, Adar Sheini*.) 5725

Such is the content of these days of Purim* (note 2: See Likkutei Sichos*, vol. 11, p. 343.), about which our Sages* explain (note 3: In Tractate* Megillah* 16b.): "For the Jews, there was light: that is the Torah*." And, the Admur HaEmtzai* clarifies (note 4: In the Shaarei Orah*, gate of Purim*, Chassidic* discourse entitled: "And the Jews received," from chapter 32 onward.), on this subject, based on the teaching of the Admur HaZakein*, for what reason the term designating light is here Orah, in the feminine. For, it is also said that the Torah* is Or, light in the masculine. In fact, the masculine designates the Written Torah* and the feminine, the Oral Torah*, in its source, which is acquired through the giving of one's own person.

In accordance with the principle established by our Sages* (note 5: In Tractate* Shabbos* 63a.), according to which: "a verse cannot be departed from its simple meaning," may Hashem grant that: "for the Jews, there be light, joy, gladness and honor," including in the literal sense and in all domains at once.
