Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8927 — Health

Volume 23 · Letter 253

By the grace of Hashem,

Rosh Chodesh* Shevat* 5725,

Brooklyn, New York,

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter (note 1: This letter was addressed to several people. See Likkutei Sichos*, vol. 6, p. 266.). Here is the content of this day: the Torah* says (note 2: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "Devarim* 1:3-5."): "In the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, Moshe* began to explain the Torah*." And, Rashi* specifies: "He expounded it to them (note 3: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "Rashi* emphasizes: 'He expounded it to them' and not to the other nations, for they do not have the right to study it. This is not the case, however, for the writing of the Torah* in the seventy languages, which had no other purpose than to allow whoever wished, including among these nations, to come and learn it, as Tractate* Sotah* 35b teaches, which notes, however: 'They did not learn it.' Moshe* had accomplished all this on the command of Hashem.") in the seventy languages." Now, in every generation, there is an equivalent of Moshe* for the six hundred thousand souls (note 4: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "According to Igeres HaKodesh*, in the commentary on chapter 27, which is based on the Tikkunei Zohar*, Tikkun* 69, pp. 112a and 114a."), even if he remains deeply hidden (note 5: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "According to Igeres HaKodesh*, at the same reference. And, the Tanya*, in chapter 44, specifies: 'a great and profound veil.' The difference between these two sources can be defined as follows. In the latter case, it is a veil concealing the existence of the soul, whereas Igeres HaKodesh* describes how the soul of Moshe* illuminates. Initially, the light veils itself and this concealment then becomes possible."). Moreover, beyond all this, this applies to every Tzaddik*, to every scholar, as soon as he devotes himself to the Torah* (note 6: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "According to the Tikkunei Zohar*, Tikkun* 69, p. 112a. See the commentary of Rashi* on Tractate* Chullin* 93a and the Torah Or*, at the end of the discourse entitled: 'Moshe* shall speak.'").

Furthermore, beyond all this, sparks of the soul (note 7: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "Tanya*, beginning of chapter 42.") of Moshe*, our master, descend, in every generation, and enter into the bodies and souls (note 8: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "And not into the bodies after having first entered the souls. These sparks are therefore truly as if they were in the body of Moshe*. As a result, these men are themselves also called Moshe*, even by their body.") of the Sages* of the era, "the eyes of the congregation," so that they teach wisdom to the people, show them how to serve Hashem with their heart and with their mind.

It follows from all this that, in order to teach the knowledge and service of Hashem, one must go so far as to expound the Torah* in seventy languages, if the need is felt by someone. One was able to observe, in a concrete manner, such a way of teaching, in my father-in-law, the Rebbe*. He requested that words of Torah*, including of Chassidus*, be translated into various languages and also that seventy explanations be brought to each idea of the Torah* (note 9: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "Like Moshe*, the faithful shepherd, according to the Zohar*, vol. 3, p. 20a."), that, in particular, its esoteric dimension be expounded, which, in our era, has been revealed through the teaching of Chassidus*. Moreover, he requested that all this be done for each person, including the most ordinary of men. In this way, he also showed them the path of the service of Hashem, with the heart and with the mind.

May Hashem grant (note 10: See, regarding this, letter no. 8932.) that in these days close to his Hilulah* and, with even greater force, on the very day of his Hilulah*, the tenth day of the eleventh month, each person be inspired to make good resolutions which, subsequently, will be followed by effect, by positive action, which is essential (note 11: According to Tractate* Avos*, chapter 1, Mishnah* 17.), in order to follow his paths and his ways, which have previously been defined, in a fixed and permanent manner, in an immutable fashion (note 12: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "See Igeres HaKodesh*, chapter 27."), that will never know interruption (note 13: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "Tractate* Eruvin* 54a.").

Then, one will continue all this and intensify it in the domains for which "this day is auspicious," in the words of our master (note 14: See the Igros Kodesh* of the Rebbe Rayatz*, vol. 2, letter no. 432 and vol. 4, letter no. 1004.), whose Hilulah* we celebrate (note 15: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "In Kuntres* no. 3 and Kuntres* no. 36."). You will cling to the tree of life and you will receive, as well as your wife and your children, the blessing of Hashem for life, abundance, and satisfaction that you will derive from your children. You will be blessed with children, health, and material ease. With my blessing,

Menachem Schneerson,
