I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your book: "Pius XII and the Third Reich" (note 2: In French in the original.) and I thank you for having sent it to me. It is surely unnecessary to emphasize the importance of your work. I will simply add that this importance is not only historical, toward generations to come. It is particularly great also toward the present era. Indeed, to our great sorrow, some, for example missionaries, still make use, to this day, of imaginary tales, which never existed, in order to detach the sons and daughters of Yisrael* from their ancestral faith, from the life of the Torah* and its Mitzvos*. Now, not only does your work contradict many of these tales, but, moreover, it proves that the opposite is true.

It is true that our Torah* and our faith have no need for any other proofs. Indeed, it is clearly established that the Torah* is the quintessence of the vitality of the people of Yisrael*, that every action that contravenes its teachings undermines the very foundation of our nation, the existence of the individual and that of the community. Nevertheless, certain people and some circles, for various and sundry reasons, still need proofs established from other sources, for example from history or from archaeology. Now, if "one who saves a soul is considered as if he had saved the entire world" (note 3: According to Tractate* Sanhedrin* 37a.), how much more so is this the case for one who influences in this direction many of our brethren, the children of Yisrael*, and brings them face to face with reality. I observe, on the title page of this book, that you are preparing other works on the same era. May Hashem grant that in this too, you know success. With my respects and my blessing,

הנני לאשר קבלת ספרו Pie XII et le IIIe Reich ות"ח על שלחו לי.

ועל דבר חשיבות עבודתו בודאי למותר להאריך, ורק אוסיף שחשיבות זו אינה ענין אך ורק להיסתורי' לדורות הבאים אלא חשיבות מיוחדת נודעת לה בתקופתנו זו, כי לצערנו הרב יש משתמשים עד היום במיסיון וכולי במעשיות בדויים שלא היו ולא נבראו כדי לנתק בני ובנות ישראל מדת אבותיהם, מחיי תורה ומצוותי'. ובא ספרו ולא רק מכחיש כמה וכמה מהם אלא מוכיח שההיפך הוא האמת.

ואף שלאמתו של דבר אין תורתנו ודתנו צריכות ראי' ממקום אחר, שהרי גלוי וידוע שהתורה היא עצם חיות עם ישראל וכל פעולה נגדית חותרת מתחת יסוד קיום עמנו, קיום היחיד והכלל, אבל בכל זה יש אנשים וחוגים שמסיבות ומטעמים שונים עדיין זקוקים להוכחה בזה משטחים אחרים, אם משטח ההיסתורי', או הארכיאולוגי' וכדומה.

ומה המציל נפש אחת כאילו קיים עולם מלא, על אחת כמה וכמה המשפיע בכיוון זה על כמה מאחינו בני ישראל ומעמידם על קו האמת.

רואה אני על השער שכ' מתכונן להכין עוד עבודה באותה תקופה. ויהי רצון אשר ההצלחה תלווהו גם בזה.
