Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8913 — Tzedakah
Volume 23 · Letter 238
By the grace of Hashem,
5 Kislev* 5725,
Brooklyn,
I greet you and bless you,
I respond to your letter, which is not dated. May Hashem grant that in the future, you know no more pain and sorrow, but only good, a good that is visible and tangible, which you will always and every day announce to me. Obviously, this includes the directive of our masters and leaders (note 1: See, regarding this, letters no. 6835, 6958, and 7359.) according to which one must also be aware of one's own qualities and one can observe, in practice, that this has an effect on the service of Hashem in general, on the fact that it be filled with joy and enthusiasm in particular, for this is a great principle, as various texts of Chassidus* emphasize.
The means of serving Hashem in joy is defined with precision by the holy Tanya* and it is surprising that you concentrate to this extent on what goes against joy, but it is useless to complain about the past (note 2: According to Tractate* Berachos* 54a.). I therefore refer to the future, for nothing can withstand the will, all the more so since we have entered the month of Kislev*, that of miracles and deliverance. With my blessing that you give me good tidings of all this, as soon as possible,
