Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8905 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 23 · Letter 230

By the grace of Hashem,

24 Mar Cheshvan* 5725,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 15 Mar Cheshvan*. At a propitious moment, your name and that of your wife will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that the wish of your heart be fulfilled, in accordance with the content of your letter (note 1: Presumably the wish to have a child.). From the manner in which it is written, it is surely unnecessary to emphasize to you to what extent a daily conduct that conforms to the instructions of our Torah*, Torah* of life, and to the practice of its Mitzvos*, of which it is said (note 2: Vayikra* 18:5.): "One shall live by them," is necessary. I would only add that, regarding everything that concerns the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, a situation, as good as it may be, can always be improved and our Sages* have given us the assurance (note 3: At the end of Tractate* Taanis*.), on this topic, that: "to whoever adds, more is added" in the satisfaction of his needs.

You train teachers and there is in this both a great merit and an immense responsibility. You speak, in your letter, of a job, but our Sages* employ, regarding such an activity, the expression (note 4: In Tractate* Bava Basra* 21b.): "sacred mission." The profound idea is to instill in your students the fear and love of Hashem, all the more so since they themselves are preparing to teach. Any improvement, any addition concerning them, will therefore be multiplied, afterward, by the number of their students. It would be good to have your Tefillin* checked, as well as the Mezuzos* of your home, to ensure their conformity to Halachah*. And your wife will maintain the positive custom of the virtuous daughters of Yisrael* who set aside Tzedakah* before the lighting of the candles, on the eve of Shabbos* and the festivals.

Please excuse me for also adding the following point. It can happen (note 5: See, regarding this, letter no. 8687.) that a blockage like yours is the consequence of a Mitzvah* that is not fulfilled in the best manner or of a lack of scrupulousness in the observance of the principles and laws of family purity — the status of Niddah*, the examination of purity, ritual immersion in a Mikveh* that conforms — due to a lack of knowledge of the details in this matter. You will therefore verify all this with a Rav* who teaches Halachah*, to ensure that you are not lacking in knowledge. With my respects and my blessing that you give me good tidings of all this,
