By the grace of Hashem, eve of the holy

To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, who devotes himself

to communal needs, descended from an illustrious family,

Rav* Shlomo Yosef (note 1: Rav S. Y. Zevin. See, regarding him, letter no. 8731.)

I greet you and bless you,

I learned, with alarm, that our friend (note 2: Shneur Zalman Shazar, President of Eretz Yisrael*.), to whom Hashem will grant long days and good years, at this gathering (note 3: That of the "fifth great assembly" of Rabbanim*. See, regarding this, letters no. 8864 and 8880.), the only (note 4: The Rebbe* underlines the words: "only," "a few," and "two.") one of its kind, in the presence of numerous Rabbanim* belonging to the category of the generations that preceded us, including in quality, delegated his deputy to represent him! And that was not yet sufficient. As if to underscore this state of affairs even more clearly, he himself participated in a meeting of dentists that took place a few (note 4) days later! It would therefore be appropriate to determine who is exerting pressure on him and preventing him from adhering to his own opinion. It is necessary, indeed, to rectify all this in the future.

According to the words of Rav* A. L. Gelman (note 5: Rav Aryeh Leib Gelman, collaborator of Rav Zevin in the editing of the Talmudic Encyclopedia.), two (note 4) additional volumes of the Encyclopedia are already ready. I therefore address you my blessing that they be published quickly, according to the perception of the readers and not according to that of the editor,

... נבהלתי להידיעה שידידנו שליט"א הנה דוקא בכינוס ( היחידי באופי שלו) של כו"כ רבנים מטיפוסם של דורות שקדמונו (וגם במעלה) - שלח שלישו לייצגו! [ואי"ז מספיק, וכאילו להדגיש הענין עוד יותר - בתוך ימים ספורים והייתה אסיפת רופאי שיניים - בא דוקא בעצמו!]. וכדאי לברר מיהו הלוחץ על הנ"ל ומעבירו על דעתו העצמית - ולתקן עכ"פ בעתיד.
