Hashem, elected by the people, who surpasses them, seeks the good

of his people, has generous ways, is from

an illustrious family, the Rav* Shneur Zalman (note 1: Sh. Z. Shazar, President of Eretz Yisrael*. See, regarding him, letter no. 8682) Shlita*,

I greet you and bless you,

I obtained general information, through the intermediary of Mr. Dov Ber Mindel, through his brother, my secretary, Mr. Nissan, according to which the latter is making efforts to get the members of their family out of the country in which we previously found ourselves (note 2: Soviet Russia). He therefore turned to you so that you come to his aid, personally, in this matter.

Of course, you do not at all need to be encouraged, in the domain of love of one's fellow and of good, in general, a fortiori when it is a matter of liberating those who are imprisoned in chains. Indeed, this country, in its entirety, is a great prison and may Hashem take pity on us. Nevertheless, I know the members of this family and I would therefore like to express, by the present, my satisfaction at seeing you take part in this action of liberating captives. May Hashem grant that in this action as well the promise be fulfilled according to which: "Hashem your Elokim* will bless you in all that you do." With my consideration, my respects and my blessing,

קבלתי ידיעה כללית ממר דובער שי' מינדל על ידי אחיו מזכירי מר ניסן שי' בנוגע השתדלותם להוציא בני משפחתם שי' ממדינתינו לפנים, ואשר פנה לכ' לעזור בזה באופן אישי.

ואף שבודאי לא נצרך כ' לזירוז בענין של אהבת ישראל ועשית טובה בכלל, ועל אחת כמה וכמה בענין כזה להוציא אסירים בכושרות, שכל המדינה ההיא ה"ה בית אסורים גדול (ה' ירחם), אבל בהכירי את בני המשפחה אביע בזה גודל קורת רוחי שמשתתף בפעולה של פדיון שבויים האמורה. ויהי רצון שגם בפעולה זו יקויים מה שנאמר וברכך ה"א בכל אשר תעשה.
