Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8856 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 23 · Letter 180

By the grace of Hashem,

12 Tammuz* 5724,

Brooklyn, New York,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter (note 1: This letter was addressed to several people. See the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 13, at page 242). This day of the liberation is, according to the expression of the one who was liberated, in the letter (note 2: See the Igros Kodesh* of the Rebbe* Rayatz*, volume 2, at letter no. 386) he wrote on the occasion of the first festival of 12 Tammuz* (note 3: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "Which is printed in the Sefer HaMaamarim* 5708, at page 263"), "the day of the liberation of all the children of Yisrael* who devote themselves to the dissemination of the Torah*." It is precisely a question, in this phrase (note 4: See, on this subject, the discourse of 12 Tammuz* 5724), of dissemination to the greatest number of students (note 5: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See tractate Megillah* 29a and the Tishbi* at the entry 'disseminate'") and the continuation of this letter speaks, indeed, of "the public teaching of the Torah*." One must, according to the terms of the Rambam* (note 6: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "At the conclusion of the laws of Shemittah* and the Jubilee, which one should consult. All of this is explained at greater length elsewhere"), "teach His straight ways and His just judgments to the greatest number." Indeed, one disseminates the Torah* by teaching it, by learning it oneself, in public, or by supporting this activity, through one's financial means and through one's effort for the institutions and the public Torah* courses, by creating new institutions or by all these means together (note 7: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "One should consult tractate Kesubos* 103b: 'He took the parchment, inscribed thereon the five books of the Torah* and the Mishnah*.' It is in this that his actions were great. The Orchos Tzaddikim*, at gate 17, says: 'To be generous financially, physically, intellectually,' as the Chassidic discourse entitled: 'Who has created,' of 5689 explains").

May Hashem grant that each person act in this direction, in the fitting manner and that the blessing given by the one whose liberation we celebrate, in the previously cited letter, be fully fulfilled: "Hashem will grant them, among all our brethren, the children of Yisrael*, the flow of life and an immense blessing, to the point that it will be impossible to say: this suffices (note 8: So abundant will the blessing be. The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See tractate Shabbos* 32b and the Zohar*, volume 3, at page 110b")." With my blessing to give me good news,

M. Schneerson,
