By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 24 Sivan*, in which you enumerate some of the problems that concern you. At your age, to use the saying of our Sages (note 1: In tractate Avos*, chapter 1, at Mishnah* 14), one must say: "If not now, when will it be?" You must therefore concentrate all your efforts on the study, with enthusiasm and ardor, of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life, which is also a teaching for life in this world. This study will lead to action, as our Sages ordain (note 2: In tractate Kiddushin* 40b) and the assurance has been given to us (note 3: In tractate Megillah* 6b) that: "if you make efforts, they will be crowned with success."

When you will have acquired, to a certain extent, the knowledge of the Torah*, you will return to the problems to which you allude, you will meditate on them and you will find a solution. Indeed, the Torah* was given to the entirety of our people, the children of Yisrael*, precisely after they said: "We will do and (then) we will understand." I hope that you have acquaintances and, more importantly, friends who fear the Word of Hashem and His Torah*. For various reasons, this is advisable and even indispensable. Indeed, there are, in Tel Aviv, many people who fear Hashem. It would be good to have your Tefillin* checked if this has not been done in the last twelve months. Every weekday, before putting them on, you will set aside a few coins for Tzedakah*. With my blessing to give me good news of all of this,

במענה למכתבו מכ"ד סיון, בו מונה אחדים מהבעיות המעסיקים אותו.

ומתאים לגילו וע"פ פתגם חכמנו ז"ל, אם לא עכשיו אימתי, הרי עליו להשתדל ביותר שיוכל ללמוד בהתמדה ושקידה תורתנו הקדושה תורת חיים (שהתואר כולל גם הפירוש הוראה בחיים בעולמנו זה) ויהי' הלימוד מביא לידי מעשה כציווי חז"ל בהאמור, והובטחנו, יגעת ומצאת.

ולאחרי שירכוש ידיעות התורה במדה מסוימת ישוב לבעיות אודותם כותב ויתבונן בהם וימצא פתרונם.

והרי נתינת התורה לכל עמנו בני ישראל היתה גם כן דוקא ע"י הקדמת נעשה לנשמע.

התקוה, שיש לו מכירים ומה שנוגע עוד יותר ידידים חרדים לדבר ה' ותורתו, שמכמה טעמים טוב הדבר וגם מוכרח, והרי כו"כ נמצאים בתל אביב.

ומהנכון אשר יבדקו את התפילין שלו - באם לא נעשה כזה במשך שנים עשר חדש האחרונים - ובכל יום חול קודם הנחת התפילין להפריש פרוטות אחדות לצדקה.
