Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8831 — Chinuch

Volume 23 · Letter 155

By the grace of Hashem,

Rosh Chodesh* Sivan* 5724,

Brooklyn, New York,

To Mr. Yosef Dekel (note 1: See, regarding him, letter no. 8699),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter (note 2: See the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 23, at page 356), as well as the book of Yehoshafat Harkavi, "Atomic War and Atomic Peace." I thank you for those you have sent me and also for those you will not fail to send me in the future. The custom of the children of Yisrael* consists of finding in the smallest detail, in everything, an allusion in the Torah*. Now, we are, in this instance, a few days from the time of the giving of our Torah*. The purpose of the Torah* is to refine matter in order to reveal the hidden forces from the First Source, the Creative Force within the creature. Indeed, the heavens were made by His Word and all His hosts by the breath of His mouth. One can deduce from this the immensity of the forces buried in everything. Nevertheless, it is necessary, for this, to probe the profound dimension of matter and, as was said, to bring to light what is concealed in the very depths of itself.

Science begins to reveal all of this within matter. This is, indeed, one of the objects of research in the atomic domain. Step by step, level by level, this research deepens and extends also to man, to everything that concerns him. For, according to the formulation of our Sages (note 3: In tractate Sanhedrin* 37a), each person is, by himself alone, an entire world, especially when his profound dimension governs his external aspect, when the spirit prevails over form, true spirituality over what conceals it, over the forces of evil that cover it. Thus, every detail of creation and, a fortiori, the whole of it proclaim: "I am Hashem your Elokim*," "Hashem is Elokim*," "There is none other than Him." With my respects, my blessing for a joyous festival, to receive the Torah* with joy and in a profound manner,
