To the leaders of the school and seminary Beis Rivkah*,

in Yerres, France, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I learned with pleasure that you are preparing a memorial book for the benefactors of the aforementioned institutions (note 1: See letter no. 2662, whose date is erroneous). I therefore very willingly contribute to it. I hope that this memorial book will be in conformity with the terms of the verse: "Then, those who fear Hashem will converse and a memorial book will be written before Him, for those who accord value to His Name." This verse makes mention of the three garments of the soul, which are also the three means of expression that a man possesses — thought, speech and action.

The deed is essential (note 2: According to tractate Avos*, chapter 1, at Mishnah* 17) and everything linked to concrete action perpetuates itself, is maintained. How much more is this the case for what is good, truth and holiness, which are immutable values. This is specifically true for what concerns education based on Holiness and, above all, for the school institution Beis Rivkah*, whose mission is not only to educate Jewish girls, so that they be worthy of their title as descendants of Sarah*, of Rivkah*, of Rachel* and of Leah*, foundresses of the house of Yisrael*, but also to train educators, who observe the fruit of their effort and even the fruit of this fruit, the advancement and the clarity that emanate from it.

May Hashem cause that the memory of those who are mentioned in this book rise before Hashem, for good, for grace, for mercy, for a pleasant life and for peace, materially and spiritually at once. With my blessing,

שלום וברכה!

בנועם קבלתי הידיעה על דבר תיקון ספר זכרון לתומכי מוסדות האמורים, והריני גם אני משתתפים בו בחפץ לב.

ואני תפלה אשר ספר זכרון זה יתאים למה שנאמר: אז נדברו יראו ה' גו' ויכתב ספר זכרון לפניו גו' ולחושבי שמו. שבפסוק זה כלולים ג' הלבושים של הנשמה, הן שלש דרכי הפעולה של האדם: מחשבה דיבור ומעשה.

ומעשה עיקר, שכל ענין הקשור במעשה בפועל - יש לו המשך וקיום, ועל אחת כמה וכמה בעניני טוב אמת וקדושה, שכללות ענינם היא - שהם נצחים.

ובפרט ענין הקשור בחינוך על טהרת הקדש, ועל כולנה מוסד חינוך "בית רבקה", שמטרתו לא רק לחנך בנות ישראל שתהיינה ראויות לשמן, בנות שרה רבקה רחל ולאה אשר בנו את בית ישראל, אלא הוא גם מוסד המחנך מחנכות, מחנכות באופן של גידולי פירות ופירי פירות, מוסיף והולך מוסיף ואור.

ויהי רצון שכל הנרשמים בספר זכרון זה, יעלה זכרונם ופקדונם לפני ה' לטובה לחן ולחסד ולרחמים ולחיים טובים ולשלום, בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
