To the attention of the participants in the inauguration celebration of

the school and seminary Beis Rivkah*, Yerres, France,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

On the occasion of the inauguration celebration of the school and seminary Beis Rivkah*, I address my blessing, herewith, to all the participants in the joy of this great Mitzvah* and, above all, to the Rabbanim*, to whom Hashem will grant long life, to the communal leaders, to whom Hashem will grant long life, to all those who brought their assistance, consented to efforts for this great enterprise, physically or financially. May Hashem reward them, may He send them blessing and success in all that they accomplish. One knows to what extent our Sages insisted on the honor that is due to the women and young women of Yisrael*. They emphasized their determining role in the life of our people. And, they report (note 1: See the Mechilta* and the commentary of Rashi* on the verse Yisro* 19:3) that, when the Holy One, blessed be He, came to give the Torah* to His people, Yisrael*, the Torah* of life, teaching for daily life, He first addressed the women. As our Sages say, "thus shall you speak to the house of Yaakov*: these are the women, and you shall say to the children of Yisrael*: these are the men."

If this has been so at all times, in every era, how much more is it the case at the present time. Indeed, the environment and the "street" are no longer what they were formerly, that is to say, permeated with Judaism, with the life of the Torah*, quite the contrary. Sometimes even, they manifest their opposition, enter into conflict. The education of the sons and daughters of Yisrael*, in the spirit of the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, is therefore carried out within schools based on sacred values and inside the home (note 2: But no longer by the environment). And, one can observe that, for various reasons, due to the conditions of life and the occupation of the husband who must earn his livelihood, the education at home depends essentially on the mistress of the household, who is the mother of the children.

This allows one to establish the value of the school and seminary Beis Rivkah*, whose essential missions are the training not only of teachers and instructresses, but also of the daughters of Yisrael*, who must be prepared for their essential mission — to be a mistress of the household and to build a Jewish home. Another point also concerns education (note 3: See, on this subject, letter no. 8931). Every improvement that is brought to a little boy or a little girl, even in a domain of limited scope, can be the origin of a fundamental change, when they are adults. And, one knows, on this subject, the image of a seed planted, which becomes a tree bearing fruit. Moreover, the students receiving an education today will be the teachers and the spiritual guides of tomorrow. Now, the school and seminary Beis Rivkah* bring together all these points at once.

Without doubt, whoever has a heart awakened for Judaism, for the true good of the house of Yisrael*, will endeavor, to the fullest extent possible, to contribute to this institution and to its construction, down to the smallest detail, so that: "the honor of this house be great, when it is built." Essential point — it will be the same for its students, receiving its education, who will be great, both qualitatively and quantitatively. With my respects and my blessing of success in all that has just been said,

שלום וברכה!

לקראת חגיגת חנוכת הבית של בית הספר והסמנריון "בית רבקה", הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לכל המשתתפים בשמחה של מצוה גדולה זו, ובראשם הרבנים שליט"א ועסקני הציבור שליט"א וכל מי שעזר והשתדל במפעל הגדול הזה, בין בגופו בין בממונו, הקב"ה ישלם שכרם וישלח ברכה והצלחה בכל מעשה ידיהם.

ידוע כמה הפליגו חכמינו ז"ל בכבוד נשי ובנות ישראל וכמה הדגישו גודל חשיבותן בחיי עמנו, עד שאמרו שכשבא הקב"ה לתת התורה לעמו ישראל, תורת חיים הוראה בחיי היום-יום, פנה אל הנשים תחילה, כדרשת רבותינו ז"ל: כה תאמר לבית יעקב - אלו הנשים, ותגיד לבני ישראל - אלו האנשים.

ואם בכל הזמנים והתקופות הי' כן, על אחת כמה וכמה בתקופתנו, אשר הסביבה ו"הרחוב" הם לא כמו שהיו לפנים ספוגי יהדות וחיי תורה אלא אדרבה, ולפעמים גם מנגדים ונלחמים בזה, וכל חינוכם של בני ובנות ישראל ברוח התורה והמצוה הוא במוסדות החינוך שעל טהרת הקדש ובבית פנימה. ורואים במוחש, שמפני כמה סיבות (תנאי החיים, טרדת הבעל בעניני פרנסה וכו'), החינוך שבבית תלוי בעיקר - בעקרת הבית אם הבנים.

ומכאן גודל ערך ביה"ס והסמנריון "בית רבקה" שמתפקידיו העקריים הוא לא רק לחנך מורות ומדריכות, אלא גם לחנך בנות ישראל לעיקר תפקידן - להיות עקרת הבית ולבנות את בית ישראל.

ועוד זאת בחינוך - שכל הטבה בילד או בילדה בקטנותם, ואפילו בפרט קטן, עלול לעשות שנוי עקרי בגדלותם, וכידוע המשל מגרעין הנטוע להיות אילן עושה פירות.

ובפרט כאשר המחונכים והמושפעים דהיום - הם המחנכים ומשפיעים דמחר.

והרי ביה"ס והסמנריון "בית רבקה" מאחד כל הנקודות האמורות.

ובודאי כל מי אשר לבו ער ליהדות ולטובתו האמתי של בית ישראל - ישתדל ככל האפשר לטובת המוסד והבנין על כל פרטיו, למען אשר גדול יהי' כבוד הבית הזה בבנינו וגם ועיקר - בהתלמידות אשר בו המחונכות והמושפעות, גדול באיכות וגם בכמות.

בכבוד ובברכה להצלחה בכל האמור.
