Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8799 — Tzedakah
Volume 23 · Letter 122 · To: grand Rav
By the grace of Hashem,
11 Nissan* 5724,
Brooklyn, New York,
To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes
himself to communal needs, is descended from an
illustrious family, the Rav Shlomo Yosef (note 1: The Rav S. Y. Zevin. See, regarding him, letter no. 8731),
I greet you and bless you,
I have duly received your letter of the 6th of Nissan*, as well as the one that preceded it. And, on the occasion of the festival of Matzos*, time of our freedom, which approaches for us and for all of Yisrael*, for good, I address to you, herewith, my blessing for a kosher and joyous festival, for a true freedom, deliverance from all troubles, material and spiritual, from everything that constitutes an obstacle to the service of Hashem in joy and enthusiasm. And, you will extend this freedom and this joy over the entire year.
Moreover, the service of Hashem, as our Torah* commands, Torah* of life, applies to everything that concerns man, throughout the day and the night, as it is said: "In all your ways, acknowledge Him." With my blessing on the occasion of the festival and that the wishes of your heart be positively fulfilled,
M. Schneerson,
You write to me regarding the Shochtim* (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 8752). From the outset, I did not express my opinion on the arguments advanced and I did not give anyone right. I simply said that these arguments were frightful and that a verification was therefore necessary, nothing more. I learned that you have been elected to the council of the central rabbinate (note 3: Of Eretz Yisrael*. See, on this subject, letter no. 8731). First of all, I was satisfied to see that the electors appreciate you. But, on the other hand, I am in a state of expectation: should one really write Mazal Tov* to the one who has been elected, given that one entrusts to him functions involving multiple trials, of great complexity? May therefore Hashem cause that you emerge from them in peace, in integrity and even more than that. In this way, it will be established that there was indeed, from the outset, a blessing of Mazal Tov* and of success.
