To Mr. Gershon (note 1: G. Segal, of Kfar Chabad*. See, regarding him, letter no. 5731),

I greet you and bless you,

After a particularly long interruption, I have duly received your letter of the 3rd of Adar*. May Hashem cause that you announce to me, always and every day, good news of what happens to you, as well as to the members of your family, in a visible and tangible good, according to the well-known formulation. Naturally, this good must be both material and spiritual, all the more so since the children of Yisrael* are defined as: "a unique people on the earth" and the Admur HaZaken* explains (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 8414) that, in the "earthly" domains, Jews demonstrate the unity of Hashem. At a propitious moment, the person whose name you cite will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, in conformity with what you write to me. It would be good for you to also communicate to me the name of her mother, for it is in this way that one makes mention, in prayer.

You formulate, at the end of your letter, the positive wishes of your heart, the desire to be active. It is clear that this is right, particularly wise, which also means that each one has the means and the possibilities of assuming this mission and of exercising an influence on his surroundings. How to do it? Everything depends on the persons who must be guided, on their character traits. And, what should be transmitted to them is set forth at the end of Megillas Koheles*: "fear Hashem and keep His Mitzvos*, for this is the entire purpose of man." According to the expression of our Sages (note 3: In tractate Avos*, chapter 1, at Mishnah* 17), "the deed is essential." Daily existence must therefore be in conformity with the teachings of our Torah*, Torah* of life.

These days, which are on the eve of Purim*, remind and teach all of this, as it is said: "Many were those, among the peoples of the world, who adopted Jewish practices." Without doubt, this also alludes (note 4: See, on this subject, letters no. 6123 and 8361, as well as the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 4, at page 1281) to the "peoples of the world" that each one carries within himself, that is to say, to the animal soul, to "the spirit of the animal which descends downward." With my blessing to give me good news, as well as for a joyous Purim*,

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מג' אדר,

ויהי רצון אשר תכה"י יבשר טוב מהנעשה אתו וב"ב שי' ובנוסח הידוע טוב הנראה והנגלה, ומובן טוב בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד, ובפרט אשר בני ישראל נקראים גוי אחד בארץ וכפירוש רבנו הזקן בזה, שגם בעניני ארץ ממשיכים אחדות השם ובאופן גלוי.

בעת רצון יזכירו את... על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע מתאים לתוכן כתבו, ומה טוב שיודיע גם שם האם של הנ"ל שכן נוהגים להזכיר בתפלה.

לכתבו בסיום מכתבו באיחולי לבבו לטובה להיות פעיל וכו'.

בודאי שנכון ונחוץ הדבר במאד, שמזה גם מובן שלכל אחד ניתנה היכולת והאפשריות למלאות תפקיד גם בתור משפיע בסביבה, ואיך לפעול הרי תלוי זה בבני הסביבה ותכונות נפשות האנשים עליהם רוצים להשפיע, ומה להשפיע הרי מבואר בסיום מגילת קהלת, את האלקים ירא ואת מצותיו שמור כי זה כל האדם ובסגנון חז"ל המעשה הוא העיקר, חיי יום יום מתאימים ע"פ הוראות תורתנו תורת חיים.

והרי ימים אלו, ימי ערב פורים מזכירים ומורים על כל הנ"ל וכמ"ש ורבים מעמי הארץ מתייהדים וגו' שבטח מרומז בזה גם עמי הארץ שישנם בתוך כאו"א, היא הנפש הבהמית, רוח הבהמה היורדת למטה.
