By the grace of Hashem,

1st day of Rosh Chodesh* Adar* 5724,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of the day during which the word "good" was said twice (note 1: During Creation, Tuesday), in which you speak to me of your son, who is a student of the Yeshivah* (note 2: And who is seeking to marry). You do not clearly indicate to me whether you are also asking me on behalf of your son and your wife, who must also travel, or whether, at first, you are speaking only in your own name and that after discussion, you will consider the various possibilities.

In any event, regarding an engagement, your son cannot make a decision alone, without one of the parents being present. Likewise, it must be possible to determine, through friends, in the two countries that you cite, whether there are proposals likely to be satisfactory. It is only after this that you will make this trip involving a considerable investment in money and in time. In fact, you have friends, both in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, and in the United States. Based on the information that you obtain, it will be easier for you to decide what should be done. And, may Hashem, Who grants His Providence* to each one, guide you in all of this down to the smallest detail.

Although you do not speak of it, I hope that there was indeed a Chassidic* gathering for the 10th of Shevat* (note 3: On the occasion of the Hilula* of the Rebbe Rayatz*), that moreover, you are also preparing that of Purim*, which approaches and which is the Mitzvah* of the day (note 4: According to tractate Megillah* 7b), with wine, that is to say, above all, with the wine (note 5: The Rebbe* underlines the word: "wine") of the Torah*, its secrets, as various texts establish (note 6: See, on this subject, the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 31, from page 179). And, the assurance has been given that: "one comes to the aid of he who wants to purify himself" (note 7: According to tractate Yoma* 38b). The Admur HaZaken* specifies that this also includes the fact of purifying others (note 8: In the Likkutei Torah*, commentaries of Shemini Atzeres*, at page 88b). במענה למכתבו מיום שהוכפל בו כי טוב עם המצורף אליו, בו כותב אודות בנו התמים...

ואינו ברור כ"כ ממכתבו האם שואל גם בשם בנו שי' וזוגתו תחי' כיון שגם ע"ד נסיעתם מדובר, או שלע"ע רק בשם עצמו ולאחרי השקו"ט בזה יתהווה סברות לכאן ולכאן וכו'

בכל אופן מובן שבעניני שידוך אין על הבן להחליט בעצמו מבלי שמי מההורים יהיו על אתר, וכן לכאורה יש מקום להוודע ע"י ידידים בשתי המדינות שמזכיר, באם יש איזו הצעות עכ"פ שמשערים שמשביעות רצון, ורק לאחרי זה לעשות הנסיעה הכרוכה בהוצאות של כספים זמן וכו' ובפרט שהן באה"ק ת"ו והן בארצוה"ב יש לו ידידים וכו' ובהתאם להידיעות שתתקבלנה יהי' קל יותר להחליט איך לפעול.

ויהי רצון מהשי"ת המשגיח על כאו"א בהשגחה פרטית שינחם בהאמור כטוב בכל הפרטים.

התקוה אף שאין מזכיר ע"ד ההתועדות דיו"ד שבט, שעשו כן התועדות, ומתכוננים גם להתועדות דימי הפורים הבע"ל שמצות היום ביין לכל ראש יינה של תורה, רזין דאורייתא וכמבואר בכ"מ, והובטחנו הבא להטהר - וידוע דיוק רבנו הזקן לטהר גם אחרים - מסייעין אותו.
