By the grace of Hashem,

15 Shevat* 5724,

To the leaders of the youth of the Chabad* association,

grouping of the holy city of Jerusalem, in our

Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt by

our righteous Moshiach*, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of the eve of the Hilula* (note 1: The 9th of Shevat*) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, chief of Yisrael*. You indicate to me that you have been elected to the leadership of this association and you share with me your good will, the enthusiasm of your pure heart to broaden the activities and diffuse the wellsprings (note 2: Of Chassidus*). May Hashem cause that there be fully accomplished in you the promise of our Sages according to which one comes to the aid of he who desires to purify himself. And, one knows the clarification, on this subject, of the Admur HaZaken*, who says that this includes the fact of purifying others (note 3: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "This formulation is cited and commented upon by the Likkutei Torah*, Parshas Devarim*, at page 89d").

Nevertheless, to increase success in everything, one must broaden the effort of men. You will therefore do everything in your power so that this decision passes from the heart to all the limbs of the body. Indeed, "the heart distributes to all the limbs" (note 4: See the Zohar*, volume 3, at page 221b), up to concrete action, to daily activities (note 5: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See the Likkutei Torah*, Parshas Bamidbar*, at page 19c-d"), for "the deed is essential" (note 6: According to tractate Avos*, chapter 1, at Mishnah* 17). Moreover, "the deed is the most elevated" (note 7: See the Zohar*, volume 1, at page 115a and volume 3, at page 108b), as one can deduce from the Sidros* of these weeks, in which the declaration is discussed: "we will do" first and "we will understand" afterward, the importance of placing the first proposition before the second.

We are the 15th of Shevat* (note 8: See the preceding letter), the new year of the trees and "man is like the tree of the field," all the more so when he is a Torah* scholar (note 9: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to tractate Taanis* 7a"). May Hashem therefore cause that all the actions that grow through study (note 10: According to tractate Kiddushin* 40b) leading to action be renewed, that of the tree of life which is our Torah*, Torah* of life. May the good fruits that are the Mitzvos* result from it (note 11: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to tractate Sotah* 46a").

The motivation and the forces instilled by this new year will extend throughout the coming year. It is, moreover, the day of the full moon. With my blessing of success in your sacred mission, so that: "you shall place them before them" (note 12: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See the laws of Torah* study, of the Admur HaZaken*, at the end and conclusion, as well as the Torah Or*, at the beginning of Parshas Mishpatim*, in the discourse entitled: 'and these are the Judgments'"), as well as to give me good and detailed news of all that has just been said,

במענה למכתבם מערב יום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא ישראל,

בו כותבים על אשר נבחרו להנהלה האמורה, ורצון ונדבת לבם הט' להרחיב פעולות הפצת המעינות וכו'.

ויהי רצון שתקוים בהם במילואה הבטחת חז"ל הבא לטהר, וידוע דיוק רבנו הזקן, לטהר אחרים, מסייעין לו.

אלא - כיון שלהוספה בהצלחת כל ענין - צריכה להיות הוספה מתאימה

באתעדל"ת, בודאי שהם יעשו כל התלוי בם להמשכת ההחלטה מהלב לכל האברים, והרי לבא פליג לכל שייפין.

ועד להמעשה בפועל, בפעולות יום יום, והרי המעשה הוא העיקר, ועוד דעשי' לעילא.

וכמובן מפרשיות שבועות אלה בהם מדובר ע"ד הקדמת נעשה לנשמע וגודל הענין דנעשה קודם לנשמע.

ובעמדנו בט"ו בשבט, ראש השנה לאילנות, והרי האדם עץ השדה, ובמיוחד - ת"ח -

יהי רצון שתתחדשנה כל הפעולות הצומחות מ(לימוד - שהוא המביא לידי מעשה - לימוד) עץ חיים היא תורתנו תורת חיים, ויבואו פירות טובים מאי פירות - מצות.

ומהתעוררות וכחות דיום ראש השנה זה - יומשך בכל ימות השנה הבע"ל.

והרי הוא גם יום דקיימא סיהרא באשלמותא.

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתם הק' האמורה ובאופן אשר תשים לפניהם, ובברכה לבשו"ט ומפורטות בכל האמור.
