By the grace of Hashem,

at the conclusion of the holy Shabbos* Parshas Shemos*

5724, Brooklyn, New York,

To the students of the holy Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* in

our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I asked the guests from the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, to transmit to you specifically my greetings (note 1: See the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 24, at page 495), that is to say, the content, at the very least, of the Chassidic* discourses and talks that were delivered here, during the seventh month (note 2: That of Tishrei*), which is satiated with all good (note 3: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to the Midrash Vayikra Rabbah*, chapter 29, at paragraph 8") and, in its turn, satiates with good for the entire year. I hope that this transmission was satisfactory, which means that it was accomplished with words emanating from the heart. As a follow-up to this, I write to you, at least briefly, since in this case, it is solely a matter (note 4: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See Iggeres HaKodesh*, at chapter 7") of underscoring, of advising a greater eagerness and a more profound scrupulousness (note 5: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See the Sefer HaSichos* Summer 5700, at page 22"), in order to highlight the idea of these discourses and talks, as they apply to concrete action, their final synthesis which is the following:

It is necessary to redouble one's enthusiasm and ardor in the study of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, as well as in the fear of Hashem and in the love of Hashem (note 6: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "Which are at the origin of the three hundred and sixty-five Prohibitions and the two hundred and forty-eight Injunctions, according to chapter 4 of the Tanya*"). For this, one must strengthen one's reflection on all that concerns Chassidus*, in conformity with the following halachic decision of the Rambam*, which appears at the beginning of the second chapter of his Laws of the Foundations of the Torah*: "This honorable and awesome Elokim* (note 7: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to the words of the verse Devarim* 28, 55: 'the honorable Name'. One will consult tractate Temurah* 3b, but this analysis could still be deepened"), it is a Mitzvah* to love Him and to fear Him. In what manner to love Him and fear Him? For this, a man must meditate (note 8: The Rebbe* underlines the words: "meditate," "His Wisdom," and "to know") on His actions, observe therein His Wisdom, feel a great desire to know His great Name. Immediately..."

For the love and fear to be followed by effect, down to concrete action, one must have recourse to the service of Hashem of prayer, as the Kuntres HaTefillah* and the Kuntres HaAvodah* explain at length, also specifying in what manner each one must go about it. Another point, which is also essential, each one must do his utmost, to the full extent of his means, so that the students of the Yeshivos* multiply, first of all by setting a good example oneself, which everyone will want to imitate, but also by pronouncing words emanating from the heart, in order to convince friends and acquaintances to enter both within the four cubits of the Torah* (note 9: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to tractate Berachos* 8a. This refers to the revealed part of the Torah* and its profound dimension, as the introduction of the Rambam*'s commentary on the Mishnah* indicates, further specifying: 'knowledge and action' and, even before that, regarding this knowledge, explains: 'the highest perception consists of representing in one's mind the unity of the Holy One blessed be He, with all that this notion implies, the knowledge of the Divine'") and within the four cubits of prayer (note 10: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to tractate Berachos* 31b. And one will consult the writings of the Ari Zal*, in the Gate of the Teachings of our Sages*, regarding tractate Berachos* 8a"), in conformity with the following statement of our Sages* (note 11: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "In tractate Berachos* 8a"): "Hashem loves the gates of Tzion*: the measures indicated by the Halachah*," through the study of the Torah*, the study of fervent prayer that allows one to formulate it, with words emanating from the heart that penetrate the heart and, ultimately, produce their effect.

All these actions toward one's fellow are essential elements of the service of Hashem, for "no act of service is comparable to that of love" (note 12: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "Cited at various references, and one will consult the Zohar*, volume 3, at page 267a") and our Sages* explain (note 13: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to the interpretation of this verse by the Sifri*"): "You shall love Hashem your Elokim*: make Him loved by all creatures. With all your soul: love Him unto the surrender of the soul." And one will consult the beginning of Iggeres HaKodesh*, of the Admur HaZaken*, who cites this opinion to make it a Halachah*, concretely applicable. Such activity renders, moreover, more fruitful the study of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, as well as fervent prayer, as our Sages* indicate (note 14: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "In tractate Temurah* 16a. See also the end of the introduction of the Tanya*"), commenting on the verse: "Hashem makes the eyes of both shine," for "Hashem will cause His Face to shine upon them," by the Light of the living King.

Regarding all the Mitzvos*, one knows the value of eagerness (note 15: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See Iggeres HaKodesh*, at chapter 21"), as the words of our Sages* say and repeat. All the more so is this the case here, since it concerns studying the Torah*, praying with fervor, giving moral Tzedakah* to one's fellow by bringing him within the four cubits of prayer and of the Torah*. Now, man consumes the fruit of such practices in this world, while the capital is preserved for him in the world to come (note 16: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to tractate Shabbos* 127a").

I address my blessing of success to you in your sacred mission, the study of our holy Torah* and fervent prayer, which replaces the sacrifice (note 17: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to the Tur* and Shulchan Aruch*, Orach Chaim*, at chapter 98"), the service of Hashem of Tzedakah* (note 18: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "See Iggeres HaKodesh*, at the end of chapter 12, and the Kuntres Acharon*, in the paragraph entitled: 'the action of Tzedakah* is that of the ever-flowing river'") which is the equivalent of all the sacrifices (note 19: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "Tanya*, at chapter 34. See tractate Sukkah* 49b, but this analysis must still be deepened"), in particular when all of this is accomplished in Eretz Yisrael*, in the Holy Land (note 20: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "Indeed, no teaching is comparable to that of Eretz Yisrael*, according to the Midrash Bereishis Rabbah*, chapter 16, at paragraph 4, and it is said: 'They will pray to You in the direction of their land', as the Tur* and Shulchan Aruch* report, at the beginning of chapter 94. Similarly, Iggeres HaKodesh* reports, at the end of chapter 8: 'the Tzedakah* that one plants in Eretz Yisrael*, here below, is immediately...'"). Moreover, my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, specifies (note 21: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "According to the Sefer HaMaamarim* 5710, at page 190") that: "each individual is, by himself, an entire community" (note 22: See, on this subject, letter no. 6647). Indeed, we are approaching the 24th of Teves*, date of the Hilula* of the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya* and Decisor of the profound part of the Torah*, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah*, our chief. And "the body follows the head" (note 23: According to tractate Eruvin* 41a). I conclude by addressing my blessing to you to advance, from one stage to the next, and to ascend in the domain of holiness (note 24: According to tractate Berachos* 28a),
