To the representatives of the families of Moroccan immigrants in Kfar Chabad, founded and led by my father-in-law the Rebbe, Nasi* of Israel,

May Hashem be upon them so that they live,

Peace and blessing!

In response to their letter from Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Bereishis…

And in continuation of the end of their letter, which they seal with the study of the holy Zohar — surely from the weekly parsha, Parshas Bereishis — the words of the Zohar are well known (Vol. I, 11b): "Bereishis bara Elokim — this is the first commandment of all. And this commandment is called yiras* Hashem"… "the yirah [fear/awe] that is the essential [thing] is for a person to be in awe before his Master, because He is great and ruler, essence and root of all worlds, and all before Him are as nothing"… "and it is called the beginning of knowledge"… "and this is the essence and foundation of all the other commandments of the Torah," see there at length.

And according to the above, it is understood and also simple that there must be the knowledge — in the language of the Zohar, the yiras Hashem that is the beginning of knowledge — "how He is great and ruler, essence, etc." — knowledge to the measure that the Torah calls "knowledge," which comes only and exclusively through study in a manner of fixed times for study, as [one studies] any portion of our Torah, the Torah of life.

And this is the matter of the teachings of Chabad chassidus, and as explained in many places, and among them in the Kuntres Limmud HaChassidus of my father-in-law the Rebbe — see there at length.

And may it be the Will that they report good tidings in all the above, and as the conclusion and seal of this letter of mine: that fixed times of study in the inner [dimension of] Torah, words of the Living [One], adds in the blessing of Hashem, source of the lives of the living, in whatever each man and woman needs, about whom it is said "and you who cleave to Hashem your G-d — all of you are alive today."

... ובהמשך לסיום מכתבם אשר חותמים בשעת לימוד הזהר הק', בטח מפרשת השבוע פרשה בראשית,

ידועים דברי הזהר (י"א ע"ב) בראשית ברא אלקים הדא הוא פקודא קדמאה דכלא, ואקרי פקודא דא יראת ה' וכו' יראה דאהי עיקרא למדחל בר נש למאריה בגין איהו רב ושליט עיקרא ושרשא דכל עלמין, וכולא קמיה כלא חשיבין כו' ראשית דעת אקרי וכו' ודא עיקרא ויסודא לכל שאר פיקודין דאורייתא וכו' עיין שם בארוכה.

שעל פי האמור מובן וגם פשוט, שצריכה להיות הידיעה ובלשון הזהר יראת ה' ראשית דעת, איך דאיהו רב ושליט עיקרא וכו' ידיעה במדה שהתורה קוראה לזה ידיעה, שזה בא אך ורק בלימוד באופן דקביעות עתים בלימוד, כלימוד כל חלק מתורתנו תורת חיים.

והרי זהו ענין תורת חסידות חב"ד, וכמבואר בכ"מ ומהם בקונטרס לימוד החסידות לכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, עיין שם בארוכה.

ויהי רצון אשר יבשרו טוב בכל האמור וכסיום וחותם מכתבי זה,

והרי קביעות עתים בלימוד פנימיות התורה דברי אלקים חיים מוסיפה בברכת ה' מחיי החיים בהמצטרך לכל אחד ואחת עליהם נאמר ואתם הדבקים בה' אלקיכם חיים כולכם היום.
