the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya*

and of the Shulchan Aruch*,

To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

the Rav Yitzchak Calba,

member of the Chief Rabbinate of Kushta (note 1: Constantinople, Turkey),

I greet you and bless you,

I have received, with pleasure, your greetings, through the intermediary of the Rav, distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Moshe Yitzchak Hecht, upon his return from his visit to your city. I also received your request for a blessing, which will be read, at a propitious moment, near the resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, chief of Yisrael*. May Hashem cause that you give me good news thereof.

As a member of the Chief Rabbinate, you are surely aware of the great merit and the responsibility that divine Providence* has entrusted to you, the strengthening and the dissemination of the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, wherever your influence extends. The assurance has been given to us (note 2: In tractate Yoma* 38b) that one comes to the aid of those who desire to purify themselves. And, the Admur HaZaken* specifies (note 3: In the Likkutei Torah*, commentaries on Shemini Atzeres*, at page 88b) that this includes also the fact of purifying others. May Hashem cause that you accomplish all this with joy and enthusiasm, as Chassidus* underlines, so that one ascend in the domain of holiness (note 4: According to tractate Berachos* 28a).

On the occasion of the new year that approaches, for us and for all of Yisrael*, for good and for blessing, I address my blessing to you and to all who are yours, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, both materially and spiritually. With my respects and my blessing,

בתור חבר הרבנות הראשית, כת"ר בודאי מכיר בגודל הזכות והאחריות שהעמיסה עליו ההשגחה העליונה לחזק ולהפיץ התורה והמצוות ככל אשר יד השפעתו מגעת, והובטחנו הבא לטהר - וידוע דיוק רבנו הזקן בעל התניא והשו"ע בזה, שכולל גם לטהר אחרים - מסייעין אותו. ויהי רצון שיעשה כן בשמחה ובטוב לבב, כמו שמודגש בתורת החסידות, ובאופן דמעלין בקדש.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, ברכתי שלוחה לכת"ר ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחנית גם יחד.
