one hundred and fiftieth year of the passing of

the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya*

and of the Shulchan Aruch*,

To the attention of the great Rav, distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who

fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

a dynamic man, of multiple accomplishments,

the Rav David Assayo, Chief Rabbi of Kushta (note 1: Constantinople, Turkey),

I greet you and bless you,

I was satisfied to receive your greetings through the intermediary of the great Rav, distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Moshe Yitzchak Hecht, upon his return from his travels and his visit to your city. He also told me that you reserved a warm reception for him and I thank you very much.

No doubt you take advantage of your high functions and of all the means at your disposal to strengthen the Torah*, Torah* of life, and its Mitzvos*, of which it is said: "One shall live by them," with all the capacities that Hashem has granted you. For, if, at all times, it has been an obligation and a merit for each one to bring closer our brothers, the children of Yisrael*, to their Father Who is in heaven, to bring them back to the path of the Torah* and the Mitzvos* in daily life, how much more is this so in our days, especially for a Rav, shepherd of Yisrael*. May Hashem cause that you accomplish all this with joy and enthusiasm, in an ever-increasing manner, in conformity with the Injunction of our Sages* (note 2: In tractate Berachos* 28a), who demand that one know ascent in the domain of holiness.

We have just experienced the luminous day of the 18th of Elul*, date of the birth of the two great luminaries, our master the Baal Shem Tov* and our master the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya* and of the Shulchan Aruch*. It is therefore current to mention the teaching of the Admur HaZaken*, based on that of the Baal Shem Tov*, regarding what concerns this month of mercy and good will. He cites the example of a King Who, before entering His city and His palace, is in the field, where all the citizens go to welcome Him. Then, whoever desires it can present himself before Him. The King shows a smiling face to each one and He accepts requests graciously.

On the occasion of the new year that approaches, for us and for all of Yisrael*, for good and for blessing, I address my blessing to you and to all who are yours, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, both materially and spiritually. With my respects, my consideration, and my blessing to give me good news,

שלום וברכה!

שמחתי לקבל פ"ש מכת"ר על ידי הרה"ג והרה"ח וו"ח אי"א נו"מ עוסק בצ"צ וכו' מוה"ר משה יצחק שי' העכט, אחרי שובו ממסעיו וביקורו גם במחנו הט'. גם סיפר לי על דבר הסבר פנים יפות שהראה לו כת"ר, ותשואות חן חן למר.

בטח מנצל כת"ר משרתו הרמה וכל האפשריות להחזקת התורה תורת חיים

ומצוותי' עליהם נאמר וחי בהם כיד ה' הטובה עליו, שאם תמיד היתה החובה והזכות על כל אחד ואחד לקרב את אחינו בני ישראל לאביהם שבשמים ולהעמידם על דרך התורה והמצוה בחיי היום-יום, על אחת כמה וכמה בימינו אלה, ובפרט בהנוגע לרב ורועה בישראל. ויהי רצון שיעשה מתוך שמחה וטוב לבב ובאופן דמוסיף והולך, כציווי רבותינו ז"ל מעלין בקדש.

כיון דאזלינן מיום הבהיר ח"י אלול, יום הולדת את שני המאורות הגדולים, רבנו הבעל שם טוב ורבנו הזקן בעל התניא והשלחן ערוך, דבר בעתו הוא להזכיר תורת רבנו הזקן היא תורת הבעש"ט מענינא דיומא דחודש זה, חודש הרחמים והרצון, שהוא בדוגמת מלך טרם הכנסו לעירו ולהיכלו ונמצא בשדה וכל אנשי העיר יוצאים לקבל פניו, אשר אז כל או"א יכול לגשת אליו והמלך מראה פנים שוחקות לכל או"א ומקבל בקשתם ברצון.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, ברכתי שלוחה לכת"ר ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
