By the grace of Hashem,

23 Menachem Av* 5723,

I greet you and bless you,

After an interruption, I have duly received your letter of 18 Menachem Av*. Of course, I took note of its beginning with dread, since you inform me of your plan to interrupt your study of our holy Torah*, at the Yeshivah* or even in a framework that would be inferior to that of the Yeshivah*.

After my previous letter, it is surely unnecessary to explain to you at length that this is absolutely not desirable, particularly at your age. Indeed, we have received the Injunction to study the revealed part of the Torah* and Chassidus*. Now, "Hashem does not act with treachery toward His creatures" (note 1: In tractate Avodah Zarah* 3a). It is therefore certain that the possibility has been granted, that everything depends only on the will and the free choice, of which it is said: "See, I have placed before you... and you shall choose life" (note 2: The Rebbe* underlines the words: "and you shall choose life").

I hope that you keep the three well-known studies that bear on the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*. At a propitious moment, your name and those of the persons you cite will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. With my blessing to give me good news of all this,

לאחרי הפסק נתקבל מכתבו מי"ח במנ"א,

ומובן אשר נבהלתי להתחלתו אשר במחשבתו להפסיק לימוד תורתנו הק' בישיבה ואפילו במסגרת שהיא למטה ממסגרת ישיבה.

וע"פ מכתבי מקודם, בוודאי האריכות למותר, שאין זה רצוי כלל וכלל, ובפרט בגיל שלו, נצטוינו על לימוד התורה בנגלה וחסידות, ואין הקב"ה בא בטרוניא עם בריותיו, ולכן בודאי שהיכולת ניתנה, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצון ובחירה, בחירה כמ"ש ראה נתתי לפניך וגו' ובחרת בחיים .

התקוה ששומר על שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים.

ובעת רצון יזכירוהו וכל שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.
