Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8550 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem,

1st day of Rosh Chodesh* Kislev* 5723,

Brooklyn,

To the members of the rabbinical council of East Flatbush,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of this Thursday, announcing to me a good piece of news, the approaching conclusion of the construction of the Mikveh* of your neighborhood (note 1: See, on this subject, letter no. 8286). May Hashem cause the building to be completed as quickly as possible, in largesse, commensurate with the necessity of this project.

And, may purity therefore multiply in Israel, according to the measure of the Holy One, blessed be He, Who acts "measure for measure" (note 2: In the manner in which one acts toward Him. See the Pesikta Zutrasa* on the verse Shemos* 3, 6), but in proportions that are greatly increased. This will lead to the accomplishment of the promise according to which: "I will sprinkle upon you pure waters." And, this same verse formulates another promise, "I will take you from among the nations... I will lead you to your land," at the time of the true and complete redemption.

In fact, this is precisely linked to Rechovos*, in conformity with the allusion that the Ramban* discovers in the Parshah* of this day, the Shelishi* of the Parshas Toldos*. This allusion is underlined, in a wondrous manner, by the Baal HaTurim*, in his commentary on the verse: "Rechovos* and we will be fruitful on the earth." You will consult this commentary. מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבם מיום החמישי, בבשורה הטובה אשר מתקרב זמן גמר הבנין של מקוה טהרה אשר בשכונתם הט'.

ויהי רצון אשר יוגמר הבנין בפועל ממש, ומתוך הרחבה, מתאים לדרישת הדבר,

ותתרבה הטהרה בישראל, ובמדתו של הקב"ה שהיא מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכמה פעמים ככה, יביא זה להיעוד, וזרקתי עליכם מים טהורים, וביחד עם היעוד שבכתוב שם, ולקחתי אתכם מן הגוים וגו' והבאתי אתכם אל אדמתכם, בגאולה האמיתית והשלימה,

אשר ענינה גם כן רחובות דוקא, וכמובא הרמז בזה ברמב"ן בפרשת יום זה, יום השלישי פרשת תולדות.

ונפלא הרמז בבעל הטורים על הכתוב רחובות ופרינו בארץ, עיי"ש.
