After a long interruption, I have duly received your letter of the conclusion of Shabbos* 20 MarCheshvan*, the date of birth of the Rebbe Rashab*. You inform me of the request for aid (note 1: The addressee of this letter sent a financial contribution to a certain institution. Then, having been solicited by another, he proposed to the Rebbe* to reduce his participation in the first in order to accede to the request of the second) emanating from one of the Chabad* institutions of our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt.

Nevertheless, you know the principle (note 2: According to the Tur* and Shulchan Aruch*, Yoreh Deah*, at the beginning of chapter 259) according to which one does not exchange one cause of Tzedakah* for another. However, you have, in this matter, received a new request, which is added to the others and it is therefore certain (note 3: The Rebbe* underlines the words: "certain" and "multiply") that you now have increased means at your disposal, permitting you a broader contribution to Tzedakah*. Indeed, "the Holy One, blessed be He, does not act with treachery toward His creatures" (note 4: According to tractate Avodah Zarah* 3a), in particular according to the definition that the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* gives of Divine Providence, which applies down to the smallest detail, a fortiori to all that concerns the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. All of this is quite evident. Consequently, you will multiply your actions in order to come to the aid of this institution that solicits you.

לאחרי הפסק ארוך, נתקבל מכתבו ממוצש"ק כ' מרחשון, יום הולדת של כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע.

בו כותב אודות בקשת עזר מאחד המוסדות החבדי"ם אשר באה"ק ת"ו.

וידועה ההוראה, אשר אין משנים מצדקה לצדקה, אבל ביחד עם זה - כיון שקבל בקשה חדשה נוספת, בודאי שנתוסף ביכולת שלו למצוא מקור נוסף לצדקה, שהרי אין הקב"ה בא בטרוניא עם בריותיו, ובפרט ע"פ ענין ההשגחה פרטית המבואר בתורת הבעש"ט שהוא בפרטי פרטיות ועאכו"כ בעניני תורה ומצותי'. וק"ל ולכן יוסיף בפעולותיו ע"מ לעזור גם למוסד המבקש.

בו כותב: במענה לשאלת אחד שהי' שולח סכום למוסד מסוים, וכיון שקבל בקשות מעוד מוסדות רצה להפחית מהסכום הנ"ל ולחלקו גם לשאר מוסדות.
