Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8541 — Chinuch
Volume 22 · Letter 324 · To: Rav Guedalya Klaperman
By the grace of Hashem,
8 MarCheshvan* 5723,
Brooklyn, New York,
To Rav Gedalya Klaperman,
I greet you and bless you,
I received, with pleasure, your letter of 3 MarCheshvan*. I also thank you for your books on the history of our people. Of course, when I have free time, I will consult them and, as you propose at the end of your letter, I will communicate to you the remarks that I may then formulate.
I took note with pleasure, in your letter, of your impressions of Chassidus*, based on what you heard during your visit. Our Sages observe (note 1: In tractate Kiddushin* 40b) that: "Great is the study that leads to action." Moreover, they specify that: "It is the act, and not the theory, that is essential." I therefore have good hope that you will reveal all this, from the world of thought, of speech and of sentiment, toward that of action, all the more so since you are the Rav of an important Jewish community. And, you surely endeavor that it be worthy of its name, that it may be qualified as: "a holy community." Indeed, the assurance has been given to us (note 2: In tractate Yoma* 38b. See also the Likkutei Torah*, commentaries on Shemini Atzeres*, at page 88b) that one comes to the aid of him who desires to purify himself. And, the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, specifies that this alludes to the man who not only purifies himself, but, furthermore, who purifies others. With my respects and my blessing,
N. B.: In your letter, you multiply the praises and you develop them. As I said, you are surely referring to Chassidus* and to all that concerns it (note 3: Rather than to the Rebbe*, personally). May Hashem therefore cause each of us to have the merit to absorb and to transmit its teaching and its directives, while pronouncing words that emanate from the heart and that penetrate into the heart.
