By the grace of Hashem,

between the throne and the tenth day (note 1: Between Rosh Hashanah*, the day when Hashem sits on the throne of judgment and Yom Kippur*, the tenth day of Tishrei*) 5723,

To the young man, Mr. Yehudah,

I greet you and bless you,

Your letter reached me and I read therein, with interest, your brief description of what your life has been. Although you do not specify this, I hope that you have a fixed time, each day, for the study of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life. This is, furthermore, an Injunction of the Creator and it is thus that one obtains His blessing in all one's needs, both material and spiritual.

I read therein with pleasure that you participate in the action of rescuing the children of Israel, by preserving them from foreign influences. I hope that you will redouble your efforts in your accomplishments to disseminate traditional Judaism, around you, in general, among the immigrants from Persia, in particular. Indeed, you are yourself originally from that country, as you write. According to the formulation of our Sages (note 2: In tractate Bava Metzia* 71a), whose memory is a blessing, "the poor of your city have priority" and the assurance has been given to us (note 3: In tractate Yoma* 38b) that: "one comes to the aid of him who desires to purify himself."

Moreover, we are in propitious days, during the Ten Days of Teshuvah*, of which it is said: "Seek Hashem while He can be found. Call upon Him while He is near." This period is therefore favorable for taking good decisions therein regarding positive actions, throughout the new year that arrives, for us and for all of Israel, for the good and for the blessing. May Hashem cause you to commit yourself even more clearly to all that has just been said, for our masters demand (note 4: Notably in tractate Berachos* 28b) to know only ascension in the domain of holiness.

You ask me whether it is good for you to leave the Holy Land in order to obtain a master's degree. You are currently in the second year of your studies and it is therefore still too early to determine this. When the moment comes, it will be time to decide. With my blessing to be definitively sealed for a good and sweet year, both materially and spiritually,

מכתבך הגיעני, ובהתענינות קראתי בו ראשי פרקים מדברי ימי חייך. תקותי, אף שאינך מזכיר זה במיוחד, שיש לך קביעת עתים בכל יום ללימוד תורתנו הקדושה, תורת חיים, שנוסף על זה שהוא מצווי הבורא יתברך, הרי זה ממשיך גם כן ברכת ה' בכל המצטרך בעניני הנפש והגוף גם יחד.

שמחתי לקרוא במכתבך שהנך משתתף בעבודת ההצלה של ילדי ישראל מהשפעות זר, ותקותי שתגדיל מאמציך ופעולותיך להפצת היהדות המסורתית בסביבתך בכלל, ובפרט בין עולי פרס, שעל פי כתבך מוצאך משם, ובסגנון חכמינו זכרונם לברכה עניי עירך קודמים. והובטחנו הבא לטהר מסייעין אותו.

ובפרט בעמדנו בימי סגולה אלה, עשרת ימי תשובה, עליהם נאמר דרשו ה' בהמצאו קראוהו בהיותו קרוב, שימים אלו מסוגלים ביותר להחלטות טובות ולפעולות טובות משך כל ימי השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה. ויהי רצון שתוסיף בכל האמור, וכציווי רבותינו ז"ל מעלין בקדש, והשם יתברך יצליח דרכך.

לשאלתך אם כדאי לך לנסוע לחוץ-לארץ בשביל קבלת התואר מאסטער, הרי כיון שהנך בשנה השני' ללימודך עוד מוקדם הדבר וכשיתקרב המועד יהי' פנאי להחליט בזה.

בברכת חתימה וגמר חתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
