You are considering fixing the wedding during the month of Elul* (note 1: See, on this subject, letter no. 7722). As Jewish custom indicates, reported by various texts and which is therefore an integral part of the Torah*, Elul* is a particularly propitious month for this. Moreover, the wedding can even be fixed during the second half of the month (note 2: Which is not the case for the other months, with the exception of Kislev* and Adar*), as the Sdei Chemed* indicates, in the "collection of laws," at the entry: "the grooms." You point out that this period is, above all, devoted to public study. Now, you will consult, on this subject, the Sdei Chemed* which, quite on the contrary, considers that there is therein an explanatory element, a logical reason. You will also see what the Birkei Yosef* says, cited by the Mateh Efraim*, in chapter 581, in the Elef LaMatteh*, at paragraph 16. According to him, on the contrary, one intensifies the prayers and supplications during the month of Elul*, which has the effect of somewhat reducing the time devoted to study. In any event, it is above all important to take into account the custom in practice, as I have said.

... לכתבו ע"ד קב"ע חתונה בחדש אלול - ע"פ מנהג ישראל בכו"כ מקומות (ומנהג ישראל תורה הוא) מסוגל אלול לזה ביתר שאת - ועד שאפילו בחצי השני דהחודש קובעים (ראה שד"ח אסיפת דינים מע' חו"כ סכ"א). ולהערתו שאז הוא ת"ת דרבים - ראה שד"ח שם, די"ל דאדרבא היא הנותנת, מילתא בטעמא. ולהעיר ממש"כ בברכ"י (הובא במט"א סתקפ"א - באלף למטה סקט"ו) שאדרבא בחדש אלול עוסקים בתפלה ותחנונים ומניחים מקצת לימודים. והעיקר - מעשה (מנהג) רב, כנ"ל.
