To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Moshe (note 1: Rav M. Sunders, of Albany, U.S.A.),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your question. It was said, at the Chassidic* gathering (note 2: Of 20 Menachem* Av* 5722) that what is necessary is "the effort of your hands," but not that of the head and the heart. It is, in fact, the word: "effort" that should be underlined here (note 3: Thus, if work is indeed necessary, it must, however, be carried out without effort on the part of the man). For, there are different ways of earning one's livelihood, implying that one has recourse to reflection, that one concentrates all the attention of one's heart. One must therefore succeed in doing it without furnishing an "effort." You will consult the references indicated, in the index of the Likkutei Torah*, at the entry: "the effort of your hands." You will also see the Mitzvah* of the tonsure of the leper, with the references mentioned therein, in the Sefer HaMitzvos* (note 4: The Derech Mitzvosecha*) of the Tzemach Tzedek*.

... במענה לשאלתו - המדובר בהתועדות שצ"ל יגיע כפיך ולא ראשך (ולבך) ההדגשה היא גם בתיבת יגיע, היינו שכמה עניני פרנסה ישנם הדורשים ניצול השכל, ושימת לב כו' אבל אין צ"ל בזה ניצול באופן דיגיעה. ראה מקומות המסומנים על "יגיע כפיך" (במפתח ללקו"ת). מצות תגלחת מצורע (בסהמ"צ להצ"צ) ובציונים לשם.
