By the grace of Hashem,

1 Elul* 5722,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Yechiel Michel,

I greet you and bless you,

After a long interruption, I have duly received your letter of the eve of Rosh Chodesh* Elul*. You mention the haircutting of a three-year-old child whose birthday will be at Rosh Hashanah*. One can deduce from what we heard (note 1: See, on this subject, letters no. 7529 and 8532) from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Israel, that there is no reason to cut his hair before he has completed three full years. This haircutting will therefore take place after Rosh Hashanah* and close to that day. Of course, in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, the custom has spread for it to take place at Miron* (note 2: Near the resting place of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai*). This is therefore what you will do, to the extent possible.

You do not tell me about your actions destined to disseminate the wellsprings (note 3: Of Chassidus*) outward. I have good hope that you are indeed devoting yourself to this, all the more so since in these days, it is emphasized that: "I am to my Beloved" allows: "my Beloved is to me" (note 4: The initial letters of the words constituting both parts of this verse form the name of Elul*). With my blessing to give me good news of all this, as well as to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מער"ח אלול,

ובנוגע לתספורת דשלש שנים כשיום הולדת הוא בראש השנה,

ע"פ מה ששמענו מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא ישראל, משמע שאין לגזוז השערות קודם מלאת שלש שנים, ולכן יש לעשות הנ"ל לאחרי ראש השנה ובסמיכות לר"ה, ומובן שבאה"ק ת"ו שנתפשט המנהג לעשות התספורת במירון - באם אפשר גם בהנ"ל יש לעשות כן.

אינו מזכיר דבר מפעולותיו בהפצת המעינות חוצה, והתקוה שמתעסק בזה, ובפרט שימים אלו הרי הסדר דאני לדודי (וזה מביא) ודודי לי.
